Locking gas cap..

Ok now as sum of you are aware there are people out there syphoning gas outta vehicles in this day and age, so I found my old locking gas cap! Problem is it sets off CEL and beeps etc, so unless there is a high end one that provides a good enough seal I recommend you forget about it. I threw mine on cause I've decided to run nothing but Shell V-power in my car now and well I don't need sum low life screwing around with that part.

Now how do I get rid of my CEL on my dash? Is it a trip to the dealship thing?

get a cap that fits, you are setting p0442 (small evap leak).... only way to fix it is to get a cap that fits right

i personally wish Chevy would have put locking gascaps...i dont need some low life putting sugar in my gas tank cuz he thinks my car is to good for me or something stupid

TheDriver! 07-31-2007 03:35 AM

Yea, I much rather the locking lids that are released from in the car to the locking gas caps.

SSRich 07-31-2007 06:41 AM

if they want in the tank bad enough they will drive a screwdriver through the locking gas cap and twist it off.

blackngold20 07-31-2007 06:45 AM

^^^lol I was just thinking that. Detroit style...lol

OzzyruleZ 07-31-2007 08:22 AM

I had somebody rip a locking gas cap off my car. nice of them... remember guys, locks only keep out honest people

D4u2s0t 07-31-2007 08:28 AM

isn't there a screen in the tank that would prevent someone from getting into it? sure they could break through it, but are they really going to take a screwdriver and start banging it around inside the gas tank? personally, i would rather just go to another car.

yeah...lol you're right! But my experiences in Detroit showed me that crack doesn't make you very smart...lol or does it:lol: Those crackheads up there are pretty crafty when it comes to stealing stuff. Especially, when you catch them in the act. Its like trying to chase down Carl Lewis...they're too fast:lol:

I got myself one not too long ago. I got it off ebay and came reccomended from someone on this site. I have had it on the car for two months without a single CEL. If I can find the link I'll put it up.

Just go to Auto Palace and pick up a locking gas cap like I did (about $10-$12).

Works fine, no cells.

And as far as the statement "Well people can break into it anyway", that remark doesn't make any sense.

Then why lock your car when going into the store?

Why even lock the doors of your house when you go to sleep at night?

I'll tell you why. Because not all criminals are professionals. Sometimes they're just kids or idiot adults looking for easy prey (either for a quick buck or just wanting to cause damage for kicks).

Locking gas caps WILL help in many situations.

So go out and get one already ....

you lock things cause its a small measure of defense for your personal belongings. Mostly everyones point is a lock of any sort is not guaranteed to stop anything. I knew people who use to siphon gas all the time. what did they do when they saw a lock? they just picked it, or popped it off. it only took 10min and you wouldn't know if you're sleep or if you're not near your car and the alarm does't connect in anyway to that area of your car(unless you do some Macguyver type of crap to your alarm system) So yeah it does make sense. Why spend the $10-12 on it when you can still be hit. You just wasted $10-12 dollars and got the same result as if you didn't

Try not having a locking gas cap on a 20 gallon tank on a Jeep Wrangler.

chevysalesman614 07-31-2007 01:23 PM

i doubt there are people who need to steal premium gas, most likely, a locking cap will send them to the corolla or w/e next to your car.

put your stock cap back on for now.. then disconnect the negative battery terminal for overnight.. it should stay off when you reconnect it in the morning.

SSRich 07-31-2007 03:31 PM

my uncle went looked at a car and said he would be back tommorow to buy it went back got it and got it home fount out them retards cut the hose to the tank now how smart is this. THEY CUT THE FILLER HOSE GOING DOWN TO THE TANK.

midnitebalt 07-31-2007 11:58 PM

that way you bypass the antitheft screen located in the filler tube
