Lost Keys!!

Ok so my spare set of keys magically dissappeared from the key ring at my house. Not sure how that happend but anyways. Has anyone had to get a new key and new keyless entry? I know i'll have to go the GM and get the keyless entry (im prepared to pay a big chunk), can i just get a key made anywhere or do i have to get rapped from GM on that too ??

We use a passkey system, key is coded so you can't just go anywhere. IF you do then your car will start but turn off very soon after. You must goto the dealer to get a replacement, look to be paying 50 dollars or more.

well, he is better of going to the dealer, our systems are field programmable, maning once the key is purchased you can reset the pcm in 45 minutes, but the deaelr still needs to make the key so it has a code, not all places like wal mart and such have the pk3 keys

you can't get 1 replacement key
you need to get 2 new ones if you want a spare
1 set is $100, they have to reset the ECM

total pain in the ass, so itll be $150-$200 for a set

100 bucks isnt all that bad in comparing to other companies.. a bmw key is friggin 275 at the dealer.

when you get the new ones i would suggest putting the spare somewhere not easily lost like a safe deposit box, etc...

Just letting you guys know I went to the dealer and bought the key and keyless remote. Just like you guys said it was right around $100. Luckily my uncle works their and I got a discount and had to pay 73 for a key and a remote. Not excited to drop that much but it could be worse. And yes they had to re-program both of my remotes. Just thought i'd let you guys know.

ECM AND PCM are completly different, so your intense tune should still work.

Thers a lot of advantages to Pass Key though, yea the keys are outrageus but theft is nearly impossible. If you insert the wrong key and get it to start it'll just die in 10 secs.

New key and remote can be had off ebay for less then 40 bucks shipped.

THne all you need to do is have the key cut and take it to the dealer to have them programed.

I was reading about the Pas Key system and I love it. I mean you pay $100 for it to get re-set with new keys, but your car would litterally have to get towed to be stolen lol.

get a spare set...............find a place on the car to hide it.......I.E...under the hood or under the car............attach it to anything you like............remove it before you go to get service just in case they find it. Just a thought.
