I was going to submit the form to challenge the inspectors decision, but after installing my silencer I thought I would take a gamble and use my retest to see if I could pass with the mod I did. I REALLY didn't want to deal with the RMV.

I did change my original design. I remade the metal gasket copy, but I welded in a piece of rigid conduit with an inner diameter of 1" instead of the previous 1-1/4. I remeasured the sound level and i managed to drop 5-6 db. I would love to compare side by side to a stock exhaust.

I went to the same garage this morning and managed to get a different guy. He saw that I failed on exhaust, but he didn't know it was because it was too loud. He asked me if I fixed it and I told him I installed a resonator. He looked it over and then printed me out an inspection sticker!

This weekend the silencer is coming out and I got my inspection in order. It only took 6 weeks, but now I can just unbolt the flange between dp and catback, slide in the silencer, and I shouldn't have any problems. I'll definitely be submitting a "How to" with plenty of pics. Hopefully this will help a lot of other people out that have to deal with this problem.

Good work on the silencer. I couldn't stand that. I live in southern va. There are no emission test and you mostly just pay to get a sticker. If they actually check your car. It's just your lights.

 

I guess that's why its better not being a masshole!
