Question Most Cost Effective Mods For 5000$

ok,
so i had no idea where to post this so i just thought i'd place it here. i'm just back from the bank and got approved for a 5k loan and im checking for the most cost effective mods for both performance and appearance. ( exept for body kits, paint, turbo( may get them but i do already know about those and im looking for new ideas)) also im trying to balance things out : no way to drop 4500 for turbo and 500 for seats for example. i am trying to build something that would stand out while being daily driven. i do perfectly know theres no tuning yet but lets pretend hp tuner released their kit ( im not at all in a rush with this, as i may get appearance done frist and then wait for tuning to be ready ) i'm rollin a 2006 stick ls with tint, gmpp catback, and silverstars. every field will be considered; audio, video, exterior, interior, handling ( drivetrain if i have to)etc...

p.s. please no : ''just trade in for ss/sc'' answers...

This could possibly be the best thread ever. What did you tell the bank you were using the money for? Did you tell them you were modding your car with the money?

Just shop online at CrateEngineDepot.com. Pick out all the GM performance and appearance goodies you want and start installing them. Then you can hit up Cobalt Addiction for their gauges and gauge pods. After that you should still have enough to put a down payment on a SS/SC......

send it my way...

IMO, it's stupid to take out a loan to "mod" a car. But to each their own.

sounds like a blast man. First off, get the Rk sport wing, it looks awesome IMO. Second, get a new front facia, the facia on the basebalt leaves something to be desired for me. Get some new headlights and some good looking rotors too. Other than that, get a blower and a tune. I dunno how much room yall got under the hood, but a supercharger with some good pistons and gaskets would make that car pretty fun.

Wheels are always tempting and I love wheels more than any other appearance mod, but I have yet to find a set that I would actually put on my car. Then again, your bolt pattern isn't rare.

yeah. i say you spend 3500 on beefing up the motors internals. 500 on the rksport wing and getting the decklid holes filled, and 1000 on a jigunda shot of nitrous.

step one- buy a used GSX-r.
step two- peel the cobalt letters off your car.
step three- stick them on the aforementioned GSX-R.

TADA.

i dont know how old you are, but i learned very early that taking out loan money to modify your car is a very very bad decision. why be in debt to be fast?

So you gonna pay on this 5k loan and payments for your cobalt? As much as you want to mod your car don't take out a loan for it. Take a loan out for a house, car, school, but not mods that are gonna net you $0 in the end. Just not smart imo

There a couple ways to look at this:

A.) Lets assume he actually has the means to pay the loan off fairly quickly. He'd only be improving his credit, and having fun while doing it.

B.) Now, if $5000 is something that would take more than 6 months to regenerate on your own, I'd reconsider using it to mod the car... you dont want unnecessary or unmanageable debt.

Personally I think its your decision in the end, but make sure youre not using the money for the wrong reasons. If you truly think modding the car is the best thing you can use it on, then go for it.

Well him being 18 and a grocery clerk i'd say its a bad decision but just saying how i see it. He may be the next lebron and wants to mod his balt before the draft who knows.

personally.. i agree with all the said above.. if u wanted a faster car why didnt u jsut get the ss/sc there is NOTHING available to make an ls go really fast other than bolt ons and n2o... i mean i put alot of money into my car and got what.. 10-20 hp maybe.. if i were u and with the 5k i would do the following...

Coilovers
sway bars
bigger wheels (considering you dont have them)
and put the rest of the money twords your car payment.. if its paid off than
rk sport ground effects if u got the dough or rk sport wing if u like it, personally i like the low pro spoiler that comes on the car..

Ignore the "you shouldn't borrow money" posts. To each is own!

Now for the car...

If you want something to stand out, make it extremely fast, or customize the outside of it. If you look in the supporting vendors section, you will find several interior, exterior, and motor options for your car. You should go with what you perfer and will enjoy the most. I could dump $5000 into a custom stereo, or strictly on exterior upgrades such as tires, wheels, or paint. Use the cash to get your car where you want it to be.

Good Luck!

ok, so frist my car is paid for the bigger part, second i got a good amount of money aside for any problems to occur, and as i still live with my parents for a year or so, i got all the needed money to pay this loan, so with that being said, i could have got the ss/sc but i wanted a small car to pay up fast which is what i did. once again the reason why i started this thread is to get oppinions on nice mods, where the money comes from is very something that should be put aside IMO, still a lot of nice comments, keep em commin!

From a financial standpoint, not putting you down but I think what you did was probably the worst move you could have made as far as modifying but understandable. I was going to do the same thing when I was trying to get a turbo kit but I couldn't get approved (and I thank god I didn't now). What you're doing is setting yourself up in the long run.

You might be thinking "ok, I'll spend $5k and be happy and pay off my loan" but it doesn't work like that. That 5k builds up with interest and then say if you god forbid miss a payment, there goes your interest rate %. You're looking at around 120+ monthly payments more than likely. If I were you, I'd take that check back to the bank (if you already took the check).

Trust me, owing people isn't the smartest move just so you can get some super cool turbo or body kit. Your car could be gone in 1 second but your credit score is there till you die. You shouldn't mess with your credit like that. It's going to take you much longer to pay this off, especially if you're like the average "tuner" who pays his bills and doesn't put more money into the loan than he has to cause he's still buying more and more parts on top of it.

With that said...if you choose to keep the money, that's your call, but I will say this:

Think about what you are ultimately looking for out of your car. Price things correctly and do your research. Don't just buy a turbo blindly and not know how things work and not know what you're getting into cause you're talking about more moving parts and these parts are aftermarket...so if something goes wrong...bye bye warranty.

There is alot you need to think about before just dumping money...otherwise, thats exactly what you'll be doing, dumping money.

ummm financially...if you still live with your parents and your over 18, you should start think about how you will move out and get your own place. If your not 18 yet you should start putting that money in your college fund. dropping 5000 dollars in your car for no reason at all is really kinda stupid. if you are going to try to achieve a straight show car...that is not enough money...and if you going for performance theres not enough aftermarket yet to see any real differences. I would say dont accept the loan. and wait until a better aftermarket is available. if you dont mind me asking what was you interest rate?
