My INTENSE Experience

My INTENSE Experience

Last Thursday, 06/29/2006, I took a trip to INTENSE ENTERPRISE in Plain City, Ohio.
Upon showing up, I was greeted by Todd Allen. Shortly after my 2005 Cobalt SS/SC was taken into their shop. While my baby was undergoing surgery I waited in their small lobby. Tim King installed their Stage 3 kit, with a 2.8 pulley, stage 2 drive belt, and control arm bushings. They also reflashed my PCM w/ their Stage 3 Tune. After installation was complete, I was given a tour of their shop and a short description of how things all came to be. I got to check out a Stage 5 ported blower housing and the Beefed up Axles they sell.

We then left to visit the dyno.
Scott Cook, the owner of Intense tuned my car. After the first dyno pull, I was worried. My car had an A/F of 14.4 to 1 across the board. Keep in mind this was with the Stage 3 PCM tune. I looked to Scott & Tim, and said, What’s Wrong? They both answered “It’s your after market intake.” I then found out that aftermarket intakes throw the MAF tables in the PCM way off, causing them to run lean as hell. So after a total of 6 Dyno pulls, and Scott tuning my car after each pull, the car achieved 263 WHP, and 240 WTQ with a very flat A/F ratio in the 11s-low 12s. I was very pleased w/ the outcome.

The car now feels stronger than ever now. The throttle response is incredible. No matter what gear your in, once you mash the throttle, you can feel it. It feels like I bought a new car all over again.

I would like to thank Intense Racing for all the work they did, and they way they handled everything. They are a very friendly, quick, and knowledge group of guys. I would recommend everyone that is serious about modifying his or her cars try and make a visit to their shop. I know I will definitely make it back down there next summer for some more goodies.

A Note to anyone running an aftermarket intake, and pulley.
I strongly encourage that you get your car on a Dyno, to ensure that everything is running safe. If I didn’t pay the little extra amount of money to get my car dyno-tuned I am sure I probably would have blown it up by now.

Yeah, these guys are great. You have no idea how many people I send their way with GTPs and LSJs and such. I have never had beef with them. Hell they even volunteered to replace my clutch at their place when it blew back in March just before a dyno run up there. They even have free Pepsi for you while you wait. Haha.

Yeah, I have never had issues. I was greatful with everything they have done when I was up there. I was one of the testing cars for the flashes so I need to get it tuned again because I have done a lot since then.

I think it would be awesome if it was possible to set up a dyno day, get like 10-15 cars whether it is an hour for tuning or half hour for those only wanting just dynos with no tuning.

Since i had my Install in June, i received 1/2 off install.
The PCM Flash w/ Dyno Tune was $375
It breaks down like so,
$200 PCM Reflash
$75 Intense guys to tune
$100 to rent Dyno for an hour

All of us Intake guys would love a tune. Where the heck can we get a good quality tune if we don't live near Ohio and and don't know how to use HPTuners? That's our problem.

Nice numbers!!!! Goos to hear they are a good company.

in regards to the intake messign air/fuel numbers up. This is the second car I have heard this on. If I owned one of these cars with a intake I would be getting a wideband, or to a dyno, or pulling the intake off until proper tuning. When dealing with boost bad air/fuel numbers can damage quickly!!!! Truly guys you should be working on getting that fixed, more so with upgraded kits.
