Need to beat my friends Sentra Se-r

Me and a buddy of mine have a friendly rivalry going on . I have a 2.2l base model and he has a 91 Se-r. He just picked up a JDM sr20det (turbo version of his motor). We'll be frequenting Waterford Hills and Grattan Raceways in Michigan, and a few Autox events not really interested in drag racing. I figure with the 16 years of technology and GM performance parts backing, I should have a good chance. As for right now his car would murder mine upgraded brakes and suspension, Cam, a bunch of JWT goodies, mid 14's on DRs bout 200whp maybe.

Amazing. My friend is selling his sentra because he blew the motor twice in a month since putting on his turbo.

Can I offer some advice that you don't want to hear? Don't mod to beat friends, even if they are friends. Mod for yourself. Do what's going to improve the car for you, not to show up a friend. IMO that is missing the point of the hobby really. However I understand most of the younger generation doesn't see this as a hobby for fun but more of a rep thing.

I honestly can't help you with your actually question. I know nothing about sentras other then my old roomate had one that was a total piece of crap. It was stock of course. Again, I say mod for your own reasons, don't worry about beating others. Good luck to you though.

I hate friends that don't know anything.

To the thread starter, without you running a full stand alone and turboing (a la "the holy build book") or a lot of nitrous, I don't think there is anything YET that will give you a chance.

Good luck though.

...he is NOT using it as a drag car he said.... so its going to be very driver dependant.... plus his trans may not be able to handle the turbo.... plus the turbo version may not have that high of horsepower...... i dont know exact numbers on that motor. does he have an automatic? do you have an automatic? upgrade your suspension if you are autocrossing. build up your motor and you should have a chance..... but its going to be driver dependant like i said before.

Actually they are roadracing and autocrossing, I didn't know both those tracks were road courses.

Either way my statement is completely true...

hahaha, I completely PWNT you about bracket racing!!

And his question had nothing to do driver's skill level, he was wondering what he could do to make his car as track worthy/fast as his friend's early 90's Sentra SE-R. Right now there is nothing he can do, like I said.

Title= "Need to beat my friend's Sentra SE-R"

Body= "Me and a buddy of mine have a friendly rivalry going on . I have a 2.2l base model and he has a 91 Se-r. He just picked up a JDM sr20det (turbo version of his motor). And like I said, as of right now his car will continue to bet murdered until some way of tuning comes out for the 2.2s.

Driver dependant brings up bad memories. Used to work for a European car dealership. Lotus would put on these track days for buyers and potential buyers. The manger used to drive for Roush Racing and placed 3rd in the Rolex 24 hour. He whopped my ass in an Elise, and he was in a stock.... I repeat stock.... RX8. Quite embarassing.

Anyway, nope not interesed in drag racing too much. maybe make it down to the track once or twice, but the primary focus is primarily lapping days i can muscle my way into at Waterford Hills Raceway, and Grattan Road course. We both have a little experience on some non-cometitive lap days, and countless hours of Grand Turismo racing (Didn't help a bit).

I've found that at least in road racing you start out bone stock, push the car till your good enough to find a deficit in its engineering. That way you are using all the car before you start throwing parts at it. I can already see that the tires are the first thing to get the ax. I'll start with a wheel and tire package, probably Azenas*sp*. Then move on to coilovers, STB, swaybars, and take a look at the braking system, ax the rear drums. Then Hahn maybe able to do something about the back straight its quite long. www.grattanraceway.com

Ohh and IMA dreamer, I do apreciate the advice, but I have to disagree. I think that moddign to beat friends is the most fun you can have for yourself. racign is a competitive sport, and in competitions you need a mean (statistical norm) by which to base your decisions. Not trying to set the track record here for myself. Why not have a friend set to bar, no fun racing yourself.

I want to do both road racing and auto x. not nessisarily interested in having unlimited power or braking multiple parts to have a billion horse power car. i want a good responsive nutarilly balanced car that i can drive to work and kick ass on weekends.

I guess my problem is that my competition is myself. I want to make the best out of what I have rather then just keep adding parts to go faster. IMO a 14.3 pass stock is much better then a 13.5 pass twincharged. I think I bought this car for a different reason then most though. I wanted a fun daily driver that I could wrench on in my free time. I'm not concerned with racing others really. If I wanted to be the fastest around I would have bought an LS1 and stuck a blower on it. Also all of my friends either have 400hp monsters or 140hp crap wagons so either way I have no competition whether it be up or down from me.

Have fun though, but I still say don't get caught up in a hp war. It's important to mod right and not just mod for speed. I'm sure you will be fine though. Good luck to you!
