New AEM DryFlow Synthetic Filter

I don't know if any of you guys have heard of this or if anyone has one, but I stumbled across it a few days ago and I thought it was pretty cool. Its basically a high-flow performance air filter, like a K&N filter, only without the oil. That eliminates buying the recharge kit, keeping the filter clean and oiled, and theres no worrying about excess oil getting pulled into the MAF after a recharge.

Heres the description from the AEM site:

"Our unique non-woven polyester element is independently tested to filter out 98.6% of airborne fine dust in initial efficiency, with an industry leading cumulative efficiency of 99.4% (cumulative efficiency is the average for the test cycle). The DRYFLOW also filters down to ONE MICRON of particulate! Our competitors claim that as the filter gets dirty, it filters more efficiently. While this is true, what they dont tell you is that their clean filter lets dirt through until it traps enough to become efficient! Get the best filtration the first time with AEM BRUTE FORCE intakes and the DRYFLOW Synthetic filter."

"AEM’s DRYFLOW Synthetic filter flows almost as well when it is dirty as it does when it is clean, and flows over twice as much air than is required for large displacement engines in vehicle applications covered by BRUTE FORCE intakes. “Many of our competitors emphasize flow as a primary means of power production in intakes,” stated Chief Engineer John Concialdi. “While flow is certainly an important part of the equation, we find that tuning the inlet to work with the harmonics of the engine produces the best power gains. We address flow in the sense that the engine requires a given amount of flow, so we calculate our filter size to exceed this flow requirement to accommodate potential future engine modifications. This allows us to retain a high level of filtration efficiency and still exceed the flow requirements of an engine. Our filters will trap more dirt, and consequently extend the life of the rings and seals in your engine.” The graph shows the flow requirements of various engines compared to the DRYFLOW Synthetic filter’s flow capabilities when clean and dirty. The DRYFLOW Synthetic filter gives you the best of both—consistent flow and superior efficiency in clean and dirty conditions. "

Sounds pretty good to me, if I buy an intake in the future I will definitely consider getting one of these filters.

Ive been running an AEM Dryflow since Aug 05 . Its great.... Never had an CEL w/ Intake problems.

Does need cleaning kits though... I believe they say every 20k miles or something like that... but I checked mine and it was pretty dirty after only 8k miles (Go figure living in AZ... dust bowl)... I dont know what the cleaning kits go for as I got a couple free with my filter.

This one apparently does drop right in. You can use a clamp and take the bottom off or not use a clamp and leave the bottom on.

Interesting.

Air filters have always been about... FLOW vs. PROTECTION

I would want to see it first hane before getting one for myself.

i still like my K&N, It does a great job of filtering. I have over 60,000 Km of hard driving on my turbo and the turbine is still sharp on the edges and clean as day one.

My filter attaches directly to the turbo, so if anything did get in there, It would be fucked.

The oil from the K&N gumming up the MAF and setting off the CEL is what bothers me. I'd rather buy the AEM Dryflow and eliminate that issue all together.
