New possible SSer

Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong place for this, just didn't find any "newb" areas, but direct me there if I'm making a complete ass out of myself right now. All that aside though..

I'm 17 and a car is on the way once I turn 18 (No license or vehicle yet). I have 2 jobs, and was looking for something that I'd love to drive, and so far what I've seen is now between the Subaru WRX and a Cobalt SS, both very different types of cars, but both very sexy and very performance driven. I can look at reviews all day, but what do you guys think makes the Cobalt THE car to get? Of course I'll go test drive what I can, but I'd like to do my homework for now. If there's anymore information any of you need feel free to ask. I was looking for something powerful, but not necessarily insane. I also live in chicago, so it needs to plow it's way through snow too. Could this be or not be the car for me?

DUUUUUUUUDE!!!! THATS SCARY!!! The WRX and THE SS were my final two choices. I chose the cobalt cuz it was 10k cheaper. Im 19, and welcome.

But i say if your needing something to plow through snow, then get the AWD wrx.

I've noticed the Cobalt loses value quicker, are they prone to coming across problems more often than something like a wrx?

not to be a dick, but none of those cars are cars and inexperienced driver should start off in.........

I as a parent would never get something like that for a new driver................you should start off with a regular Cobalt, learn to drive it, and if you are shown to be responsible and accident free, then move up to something with a bit more kick....

Having said that, I drove my redline in Chicago weather last winter, it was just fine, but I would imagine the wrx would be better given the little snowfall we had this year.....

I respect that, and I'm sure I'd agree if I were a parent, and I was thinking about getting a lower level cobalt or simply a 2.5i, but I think I'd do alright handling something with a bit more power.

Get the scooby (wrx)...much better in the snow and much easier to make HUUUUUGE power. Insurance will suck on both cars...especially in chicago.

He's actually right...your first car shouldn't be anything with more than 200hp but if you're working for a living and paying for the car yourself it's different because you'll be somewhat less likely to crash it into a pole.

You CAN run a cobalt ss/sc or redline in the snow you just NEED winter tires. All seasons in the winter is a bad idea, too much torque...will be WORSE in the ss/tc I'd imagine. At least the wrx has all wheel drive (I think it's close to 50 50 split last time I checked) which will perform decently in the snow with all seasons even with the turbo (stock that is). Up the boost and the torque will cause you the same problems in the winter.

Go in between get a sport model. Later down the line if you think your ready im sure the turbo kits they have now would be able to be slapped on a 09 Sport Cobalt then you can have the best of both worlds.
