NOOB Question about SS/SC Oil

I have a 05 ss/sc cobalt, and on the odometer when I scroll to oil, the percentage says 65%. When should I change my oil? Is there a certain percentage where I should be getting it changed?

if you drive agressive, the oil life moniter goes down faster. same thing if you make short trips and the car doesnt warm up.

I get about 7500 outta my oil before it starts so smell like it's toast. I drive mostly highway and I'm fairly easy on my car...

I personally ignore it. I go by the odometer over the OLM. The OLM is mainly there for the people who don't dwell on (And usually forget about) oil changes.

no, not set for a 5k oil change. if you do mainly highway, it typically ends up hitting 5% around 7500 mi.

You have to reset the oil life meter everytime you get an oil change.......some people neglect that. So if you haven't reset the meter, I wouldn't trust it.

I go by what the monitor says. Personally I don't believe in all the "change every 3k miles" bullcrap. I use only Mobil 1 full synthetic, and just wait until my car tells me to change it

You ss/sc guys must have a better dash. On the redline there's just an indicator, I believe it's every 3k-5k miles. Honestly, there's some discussion on how long the synth oil lasts. I'd say at the very least change it every 5k miles if money's an issue, if not 3k is a safe limit...some people change every 1k miles but that's just overkill in my opinion.

In the southeast? Blasphemy!

PS guys-->The worst synth oil I've used is Q...it runs like garbage...it's also the cheapest synth at walmart...I'm trying pennzoil next; we'll see how it goes otherwise back to mobil 1.

Don't depend on that oil percentage. Check your oil yourself by popping the hood and pulling that dipstick out, wiping it, putting it back in, waiting about five seconds, and then pulling it back out. If it's dirty or it's low, it's time to do something about it. Remember, oil is gold-ish in color with it goes in!
