ODD question of the day....help please!!!!

So I have a ZZP midlength header and downpipe with the Magnaflow cat, and the Magnaflow catback bolt on exhaust.

Now when I first installed everything it sounded nice with a deeper tone and no raspy, fart-can sound.

However, once I put my wideband O2 sensor in where the extra bung is in front of the cat after the 1st O2 sensor off the car...my exhaust now sounds like a raspy, fart-can when under medium to full acceleration.

What would cause this? Is it the wideband O2 sensor? And is there anyway to fix it??

Please help me get rid of my fart-can sound. :D

Buy a V8. :p:

Not sure.

sounds like something either came loose, or the bung wasn't welded properly

My car is kinda raspy when its cold. Let the metal heat up drive around the block a few times then see how it sounds.

Still does it after it is heated up. And it does not sound like anything is loose, which would give more of a tinny sound.

did u bag on it when u first got it?? or did u give it the 500 km babying period??

DoubleLP 03-26-2008 05:38 PM

babied.

well in my old car i needed to make a thin gasket for the o2 bung... but that was a 72 monte so no real comparison can be made...

06_SS_S/C 03-26-2008 05:42 PM

probably got a leak somewhere.

DoubleLP 03-26-2008 05:44 PM

Hmmm........maybe. I tried tightening the wideband O2 sensor but I can't get anymore on it.

Click on "Clip 1", it should be closer to that sound then what I have now:

might be a leak somewhere else, gasket could be bad or something

DoubleLP 03-26-2008 05:48 PM

Yeah true. I have it booked in with Midas on April 7th, but if I can avoid going I will. :)

06_SS_S/C 03-26-2008 05:49 PM

did you use the hardware ZZP sent you?

DoubleLP 03-26-2008 05:49 PM

Yup.

Pickles 03-26-2008 05:49 PM

You may want to get under there and retighten the header and header/dp bolts. Over time, they may have gotten a little loose after break in, and the gaskets may not be mating up quite as tightly.

DoubleLP 03-26-2008 05:51 PM

You busy tomorrow?? :)

07ss_PJ 03-26-2008 05:52 PM

check the bolts. from what i hear the ones zzp sends you are shite!

Yup.

thats probably your problem. the washers they send out are aluminum. here is what they look like after a month or so:

Go out under the car if you can, feel around (when the car is cold :) ) and see if you can feel the washers. If they are like this you should be able to feel that.

If they are, go out and buy 1/2" grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers and replace the crap they sent ya.

DoubleLP 03-26-2008 05:53 PM

Now these are the ones that attach the downpipe to the header and the catback exhaust right?

Yep, both.

You will need 4 set of bolts/washers/nuts. 2 for the dp/header and 2 for the catback/dp.
