Oil Consumption

Hi,
After watching my oil levels for a while, I've determined that my car (05 2.2L) goes through a quart of oil about every 850 miles. The engine has almost 170,000 miles on it. It doesn't leak, and I don't see any smoke, but I am just assuming that it must be burning it at a rate that doesn't cause it to smoke. I just want to make sure that this amount is normal for my car and that I don't need to be worrying too much! I run 5W-30 full synthetic.

Thanks!

normal would be 1 quart between oil changes, your close to 5x that. there is for sure an issue there.

1 quart every 1,000 miles is excessive. Unless it's a V8 Hyundai.

GM spec sadly is up to 1qt in 2000mi is considered normal.
But yea you are definitely using more than you should. If your cat is healthy it will burn off quite a bit of excess oil without letting it smoke, that is until it starts getting carbon fouled.

No you just have one that doesn't leak oil. Rings can be fine and still have bad pistons, valves, crank etc.
