Hi just got home from a short road trip, no car issues while on the road but noticed oil under car when I got home, checked to see where from and its the coolant reservoir ! It was full of oil and the oil dipstick almost empty.No sign of coolant in the engine. I was thinking the oil cooler (mine is the 2.4 l before it was remodeled) Anyone else have this issue?

Yeah that happens. They leak internally, oil into the coolant only as the pressure difference is too great, you won't get coolant back in the oil. Replace the cooler.

ok...they don't make the part anymore...any idea what people are doing to remedy this? Thanks SO much for asking been a bad week.

You can get a good used cooler for cheap, that's how i've fixed them in the past for local guys.

Check with Mongorat427 on here, he has tons of used parts. Could probably help you out.

The person you mentioned above hasn't answered yet? Has anyone tried the kit GM sells to replace the cooler? Part #: 89060546 ? Really stuck here.

What is that part? I can't see anything come up when I search the number, is it a replacement cooler?

yes it is suppose to be a kit to replace the cooler so it is like the ones after it was deleted. Thanks for the info, if you or anyone hears of anything about it please let me know.

Everyone seems to be saying they doubt its the cooler , more likely a head gasket , GM is looking for the conversion kit for me. Have you seen this issue with the eternal leak many time? sorry to be a pain , trying to avoid a 1500$ engine.

If it's the same as the cooler on the LNF I have one I'll sell. If you can narrow the problem down before throwing parts at it that would be best though.

yes ...they told me no oil cooler available to change the engine...and cheaper to change the engine than to do the head gasket..which they say it is , I still have doubts.

Take the cooler off. It will be full of that milky crap. I've replaced a couple personally.

These engines just don't blow head gaskets, it's so rare. The only time i've had oil/coolant mix is on a damaged block or a bad oil cooler.

Can the coolers be repaired or patched? Where do they leak from internally, orings or do they just get holes or something .

No. I've cut one open; it's like a radiator in there. Cannot repair.

Really huh, GM is really disgusting 10 years old and can't get a part my Camry was 15 parts everywhere. My last GM vehicle..

Cobalt=dead for 5 full years
Camry=still in production

I get that but my 1995 camry has different parts and they are still made..GM made Cobalts with this cooler, got rid of it in case they leaked and when they did leak they stop making parts..so far dealers have told me to change the engine...weld a pipe into the hole and look in scrap yards (which I did but there are none)
