One Bassett man died and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle auto accident Saturday afternoon, according to the Virginia State Police.
Okey Wayne Cooper, 46, of Valley View Drive, Bassett, died at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, where he was taken after the 2:48 p.m. accident, according to Sgt. Robert Carpentieri of the State Police.
Cooper was driving a 1996 Ford Windstar van on Virginia 57-A four-tenths of a mile east of Virginia 680 (Columbus Drive), Carpentieri said. That is in the Bassett area.
The van and a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Brenda Sue Goad, 26, of Bassett, collided head-on, Carpentieri said.
The Cobalt allegedly was traveling on the wrong side of the road when the accident occurred, he said.
A 7-year-old girl was in the back seat of the Cobalt and was ejected from it, Carpentieri said.
Neither of the drivers nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt, he said.
Goad and the 7-year-old girl were flown by helicopter to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment, Carpentieri said. Their conditions were not available Saturday night.
The investigation is continuing, and Trooper Adam M. Metzger is the investigating officer.

This. I kicked someone out and made them walk 5 miles in the rain cause they refused to put their seat belt on. He's like "I'll get hypothermia"... I told him it's better than anything that could happen at 50mph.
Sad about the 7 year old girl
I wonder if power steering fault had anything to do with why they were on the wrong side of the road, or if they were avoiding a hazard like a deer or something....
