Picking up my car Tommorow!!!...Breaking it in?

So yea bought my car sunday...had to wait for the dealer to do its nonsense.

Never Less i am getting it tommorow and more excited than ever

This is my first car and i have been riding a moped, dirtbikes and anything with an engine and 2 wheels for a while now.

I will not have my license for a good 6 months but i could afford the car now and my family needed one now because my sister is home from college over the summer.

But for the years i have been riding motorcycles and whatnot when the engines were brand new we would splash a little extra 2 stroke oil into the tank. On top of this we would ride up steep hills very slowley. This allowed for the piston to expand and push out the walls getting eveylittle bit of power we could.

Is there anything i could do like this with my new car? Should i keep it under a certain speed? Not rev it above a certain rpm? any tricks to help it performance wise later on? ANYTHING!?

if it's an SS/SC then I would recommend not keeping a consistent rev for mroe than 5 seconds for the first 1000KM (don't know what that is it miles)

Assuming you bought a Cobalt SS Supercharged:

Do not add anything to the oil. Your engine has already had the rings seated at the factory; you will recieve it with Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Do not dog the car for a few thousand miles (2k - 3K). Then get your oil changed using Mobil 1 Synthetic (Always use Mobil 1 or a comparable synthetic, this will help expand the life of your engine). From the first oil change on, you can drive anywhere from 4k-5k before your next change; if you want to and can afford to change it at 3k but it won't do any good. Now you should be good to get on it, maybe watch it a little bit.

New engines are practically broken in from the factory. All these cars need, and you can read it yourself in your Cobalt manual:
-Not to exceed 5000 RPM
-No heavy/extreme acceleration/transmission braking
for the first 800 Kilometers or 500 miles.

Myself, family, and local mechanics agree:
After this the car is ok for what you need to do, although engine modification consisting of adjusting/replacing moving peices is not recommended for the first 10 000 Kilometers or 6 250 miles. (Stage I, II, pulley change, etc.) Messing with the intake or exhaust system won't matter at any interval.
Don't forget, synthetic oil with the SS SC!
Good luck!

I hope you are shifting past 3,000 rpms cause if you not you may glaze over your clutch

also...don't change alot of oil brands. if u like mobile 1...stick with mobile 1. don't go from mobile, to penzoil, to royal purple. from my experience ull gather sludge, and it'll be a big mess. ur car wont run smoothly, it'll have trouble starting. i have a 2.2 and i use mobile 1. i've only changed my oil maybe 4 times. i was thinking about switching to royal purple. i hear alot of good things. but i'm not too sure if i want to. but yeah, deff dont have a heavy foot during the first 3,000 break-in. it's hard, but worth it in the end. lol. my friend has a 2.4 cavy and he likes to drive his car like he stole it, and this is the second or third time he's going to replace gaskets. not an easy job.

no worries. You should be happy that you got a car, at least you can claim it's your's and that looks good with the ladies apparently (I've yet to but that theory to the test yet). And don't let spoiled brats like me ruin your day j/k (FYI I'm not a spoiled brat, I just happen to drive a SS/SC)

go easy on the clutch for a while. mine didnt completely break in till 800-1000 miles. now its silky smooth.

Also go extra easy on the brakes. Chevy has problems with thier small car's rotors warping from excssive quick stops. Go easy on the brakes for a couple hundred miles.

btw, congrats!
