Does the size of the engine matter to get an exaust note like this.

The carrera gt was the only one in the whole video that had an exaust note like this which i like.

Yes, swap the V10 from the CGT in your Cobalt!

I think megan is a bit too loud and you won't get that sound until you add 6 more cylinders :-p

it has more to do with the bore and stroke of the cylinders, these high reving and high cylinder (10-12) are short stroke, kinda like a sport bike, that's what really leads to the sound. they produce relatively low torque, which is why they have so many cylinders it helps increase the overall torque output.

In short, you won't get a similar sound from a cobalt without modifying almost everything, pistons, connecting rods, valves, balance shafts, valve springs, retainers, camshafts, etc, to rev to the moon and back. It basically involves re-engineering the engine. The parts are available, but we'd still ask why..

You can make a v8 sound pretty high pitched you just need equal length headers. But they can run you close to 5500 dollars for custom made ones on a vette. Think le mans c6r and so on. If you shortened your stroke on your balt and spent some time and money on a custom header you could probobly get a pretty unique sound.

It's possible without shortening the stroke, but the engine needs complete re-balancing for high revs. And a short stroke on an engine like ours, no matter how high it revs, is pointless as you should've just bought a Civic Si in the first place.

Yeah no stroke equals no Torque. As awesome as the lfa's sound they make 358 ft lbs of torque at 7000 rpm. All I can say is that's a perfect example of why short stroke engines such as vtec Honda's and such belong on a race track and that's it because trying to daily drive something with out torque is torture.

Agreed. You have NO idea how many arguments I've gotten in with Honda-tards over torque and everyday drive-ability. Not one of them looked at practicality.

American engines are often described as lazy and relying on large displacements, but American engines in general have decent stroke lengths and specialize in torque. The only import company I can think of that comes within spitting distance of the torque outputs American engines have designed in is Mercedes Benz.

The majority of them have never experienced Torque so they are pretty arrogant when this discussion happens. They don't understand that torque wins races horsepower is just for bragging rights. For example, you take a b18c, build it, gt35r, 500whp and still only 280-300 ft lbs and that doesn't come on until 5000 plus rpms and when it hits it happens all at once so they just spin. Funny when a fully bolted and tuned ss turbo pulls a big turbo Honda because they grip and go and the civic just spins, shifts, spins shifts and they don't go anywhere.

inline vs Vee and probably a flat plane crank like most exotics along with the firing order and acoustically tuned intake and exhaust per cylinder....

no your cobalt will never sound like a v10 supercar... physics do not allow it...

^^^ This is correct. I'm not sure if a Carerra has a flat plane crank though? I know for a fact that Ferrari does.

This is the only thing that will make a Balt sound like a supercar. No Carreras but they do have lambos and Ferrari.

^^ Still makes probably in the low 400s for torque though. This would also be horrible for daily driving because you would grow a beard before boost builds at normal driving speeds instead of doing a roll from 70 or 80 mph when your already at 8000 rpm. Not all of us like horrible lag and useless tiny powerbands. You actually just proved my point from earlier on thank you.
