Premium Fuel

I've just picked up a Cobalt SS/SC. Should I be using premium fuel?

Any forced induction vehicle requires the usage of premium fuel. Yes it will run with a lower grade, but it runs poorly. I honestly don't even know how much gas costs becuase I have to pull the trigger on 93 regardles of price. Besides, is an extra 20 cents a gallon really going to break your back?

I think it is like $3.15 here, but I am not too reliable a source on that.

premium fuel is good for anycar imo. Helps lower emissions, cleans ur engine (not sure), and you might get better mileage.

Higher the octane the harder is is to burn, this is why it is good for higher compression cars, and it also helps with knock. and it does have more cleaning additives to it.

doesnt clean your engine, and you will only get better mileage, power, or emissions, if your car is tuned for it.
Fortunately the ss/sc is, so its most definately best to put premium in it

not true at all. if your car is not designed or tuned to run on premium, you'll get worse gas mileage. it doesn't help clean your engine at all either, that's an old myth. it also doesn't have lower emissions.

you should use what your car was designed for. using too high OR too low octane is not a good idea. all you're doing is wasting your money and hurting performance if your octane is too high for the car.

damn, it, beat me to it!

Read your owners manual, I think it says that you can but you will have power loss, and why would you want that with an SS.

It is also known that Knock destroys engines. Knock is caused by lower octane fuel.

will it benefit the 2.4l to run premium?

I heard premium was good to run in all vehicals because its easier on the engine, less wear and tear kind of idea. Don't know if it's true or not, but that's just what I heard

Cool 2.4 LE5 takes 91 octane!

My owners manual shows 91 octane as the fuel to use for the 2.4L NA LE5 Engine.... 89 octane will work with reduced performance. Local Sam's Club sells 93 octane for $3.15.9 then I get five percent back with my "card" so it runs $3 a gallon. With 93 octane, my 2007 Cobalt SS is getting 30 MPG highway and averaging 23 - 24 MPG city/rural (10 - 15 mile round trips).
