Probably a dumb ?

Ya if i read my manual it will probably tell me but what is behind that little rubber flap right underneath the ignition in my LS? I havnt pulled it completly out yet because im worried it mite be important. Just curious as to what it is?

I think it's to keep the keys from jiggling against the steering column. Thats my guess.

I would say that your guess was the obvious one as there is nothing hidden there. Not even a hint of someplace to pull it out with.

Actually it serves multiple purposes. While it is a nice way to keep from hearing those keys rub back and forth it actually is a cover. Underneath is a mechanism that you would use to release the key from the ignition in a situation where it gets stuck....something to that effect. I work at the Lordstown Plant that makes the cobalt and that is what my fellow supervisor told me that works in the IP area. If there are any further questions I can probably answer or find out for you.
