problem with body shop. need advice!

ok, well a while back my cobalt was keyed. from the front bumper to the back bumper. i just recently dropped it off to be painted. i have the razzi kit on my car. since insurance was paying for the paint job, i decided to order me the 2.4 ss bumper cuz it sits higher than the razzi and wont have a lip to rip off.
i went in and explained to the guy what i wanted(this is a chevy dealership body shop). explained how there are 4 bumpers, the ls, the lt/z, SS2.4, and the 2.0 with the lip.
i specifically said 2.4 5 times. showed him the picture. he asked if i had fog lights and i said no dont order them either.

they finally call me today to tell me my car is ready. i get so excited. i start pulling up to the dealership, scanning for my car. and i see the fscking LT(non fog lights) on my car. it looks so retarded. i'm mad, but i dont like being mean so i just talk to the guy. i take him in my car down the lot to show him the bumper i was talking about. and he was trying to tell me about how i dont have fog lights, and their computers arent set up to really show them what they are ordering, and how they cant just return the bumper so i need to dish out the damn 400 dollars for the bumper!!!! they said if i find a lip i want, i can BUY it, and they will paint it for free. wtf? i tell them IF YOU GO TO TACO BELL, AND ORDER A TACO, AND THEY GIVE YOU A BURRITO, WHAT DO YOU DO?.

i told them they can order a lip themselves and paint it and pay for it, or give me my old bumper back and i will go somewhere else and have them order the bumper. or they can get it right and do it again.
but should i ahve to pay for this bumper that i dont want? it looks retarded.+

no.. you do not pay for anything.. they fucked up.. their responsibility.. not the customers

ask for a manager and keep working up the chain until you find an asshat that has power and common sense

Yeah I'd be pissed too! I worked for GM and BS they can to tell what bumper it is it gives them the codes for whatever they want. They put your car straight back to stock. This was a n insurance deal? Get your agent in on it, tell them they put the wrong parts on your car, you NOT satisfied and you want it fixed how you want it done, NOT THEM.

Its a long shot but its your only one.

its partially insurance. my front bumper needed to be repainted because of the scratches, but i didnt like ita nd it had part of the lip missing already, so i ordered the SS bumper so that i could not be as low but still look bad ass. so i am paying for the bumper but not the paint job.

If that's not what you want, don't accept it. They were supposed to order a specific product; prep, paint and install it for you. If they ordered the wrong product, it's their responsibility to fix it. Go to the General Manager of the dealership if the body shop manager won't help. That's unacceptable. If you don't want to put up with the fight, I would make them buy you the RK Sport front lip and install that...

This might help. GM lip kit and GM wheels. I think it looks real nice, except the rims aren't my cup of tea.

agreed, but i hope you didnt sign the paperwork, where it says received in good order... here______________.

tell them rat bastards to shove the lt bumper up the hoopola.
you are the consumer, remind them they are the technical experts, and that they need to do the job they were hired for.
what happened i bet, was the BS partsman ordered by serial number or had the wrong info relayed to him. regardless, they ordered it, painted it, and yes; they cannot return it. they are hoping that you go away so they keep their profit margin on that sale.
but make no mistake, they have a budget just for stuff like this, and don't rest until they fix the boo boo. as previously mentioned, deal with the BS manager, not the foreman, not an estimator, the manager. if he won't do anything, goto dealership general manager. and if that don't work, hit up the dealer principle. (owner). if after that, you get nowhere, call the better business bureau.

personally, owning a sign shop, I have put up 2 4'x8' signs in the back of my truck, and parked in front of the business for days straight, bashing the business without slander.
after a week, i got my way, and a 700 dollar unit was replaced under extended warranty that i paid for. keep on them.

So what happened? Did you bend over and take it up the pooper or did you make them get you what you ordered in the first place?

And if they say it's too late tell them "ok, here I'll pay for it then." Hand them a $20.00 bill and when they go WTF? Tell them "doesn't it suck to not get what you asked for?"

I had to think about this one. I work in a GM body shop and I think I know how this happened. Unless you talked to someone that knows something (and cares) about a Cobalt, which is unlikely, he just ordered th one that is supposed to be on your car. He likely doesn't really care that you are into your car and didn't want to research it. The parts person probably felt the same way. I am the only one in my shop that seems to know there are 4 front bumpers avalible for a Cobalt even thought the last 3 we fixed had the wrong bumper ordered originally and had to be reorderd after I explained it.
None of this is an acceptable excuse, If you explained what you wanted and paid for it, they should give you what you paid for. If they didn't want to do the research, they should have refused the job. Make them give you what you wanted. They will use the cover they gave you on the next Cobalt they repair.
