The quest for my SS

I finally got my SS. I had to go through so much. Denied GMS pricing even though they had the incentive, and a needle in a haystack to get G85. I was able to nab the 1 SS in Arizona out of 31 that had the G85 package. She's Black, with the Sunroof as well. Gotta go though, my parents just got back with it (I bought it, I'll explain later)...First time to see it as mine.

The car rules...obviously. I have to be at work at 5:00AM so I'll tell you all the details when I get back.

EDIT: It took me forever to get that damn thing in reverse. In the manual it just says to shift into reverse. I thought mine was screwed up. A friend that knew Cavy's showed me the secret to it. It was annoying for awhile .

Ok so it was a pain in the **** to get the car. After emailing the dealership and finding out several times that they were not going to sell the vehicle at the GMS price, they finally called and told me that they were selling it at GMS. I was psyched. I told them I had my credit card ready for deposit and a hold until I got off of work on Thursday afternoon. The manager said they cannot hold the car for anybody---first come, first served.

I was so mad, I had to go to work from 3:30 to 10:00PM. I was absolutely terrified that some ****** that didn't know anything about the car was going to walk in and buy it before Thursday. I was SOL.

Triumphant Music ...Parents to the rescue. They left for the dealership at 7:00PM, filled out the paperwork, and had the car to me by 10:30PM. I was so excited. The finance is under my name so it will greatly improve my credit, and I only have to bring by my down payment by tomorrow.

The only thing that kind of sucks is that they bought me the extended warranty, theft system, theft insurance, etc. It ran the bill up and they had to finance me at 60 months instead of the 48 I wanted. So I pay $262 a month for the car. I figure I'll just save a lot and pay it off in 3-4 years anyway.

The car
The car is sweet. I test drove a Saab 9-2X awhile back, and while that had tenacious acceleration above 3000RPM when the Turbo kicked in, the Cobalt has more power throughout the power band. The supercharger really screams with the exhaust at above 5500RPM (I couldn't resist a few times...I will break her in normally). Very fast. It almost takes the fun out of things. If you want to go close to redline in 2nd gear you're already at 50MPH and you just want to take off some more. Then you get all depressed and shift to fourth, but remember how awesome the car is and get over it. I kept getting the urge to break the speedlimit bigtime .

The only thing I've noticed is that the trim on my passenger side mirror is a little messed up. Other than that, she's awesome. Oh...and I accidently pulled off the parking break (e-break) handle when it was all the way up. It just pops right off. It would nice to see if anybody can design a cool aftermarket one if it comes off that easy .

Yeah there should be a tab that hold that on so it doesn't slide off. I broke mine when I installed my arm rest.

Glad the car went to a CobaltSS.net member

You posted by one of the pictures of my SS/SC a couple months ago that you envied me. Now you have an SS/SC with G85 and I envy you, especially that payment (high interest rate + no rebates = $410/month financed for me)

What kind of down payment did you slap on it?

Ok...I had a Hyundai Tiburon before. It was a 1999. Worth about $5800 private party. My parents bought my brother a 1966 or maybe it's a '69 mustang. It breaks a lot, has no AC, and is not worth as much trouble as it is unless your really into cars. They are going to sell that.

They gave me $6000 for my Hyundai instead of me trading it in, so they could give it to my brother. Better than the $5800 it's worth. In addition, I had been saving for awhile and had $4000 in the bank. ALSO, we dug up my parents long lost GM card, about 8 years old+. They never used the points, and even though it had been depreciating, it had $2300 left on it.

So, that's $12,300. Sweet. The car is MSRP $24,550ish. The car GMS is $21,969.90. Plus tax--about $1800. Here's where I got some deals...the finance guy screwed up the APR rate and did everything at 3.9% APR for 60 months. The manager noticed and it's more like 6.9% for 60 months on the SS. They were terribly sorry. So, they got the APR down to 5.04% for 60 months, gave us a $500 rebate, a couple hundred off of the extended warranty (Normally $1400ish, got for $1000ish). It came out that even though we were getting the higher APR, with the stuff they gave us it came out to only $8 more per month than the lower APR than before.

In addition to all that, I got some 'better' alarm system that was close to $500. The insurance for it for 5 years was around $380. This is cool-- If the car is stolen and not recovered, say my insurance company gives me $14,000. The $380 MEASLY dollars for the alarm insurance will cover the difference, and give me the other $8000+ to give me how much the car was worth. One hell of a deal, sure beats OnStar.

So in the end, added all up, it came out to $262 a month for 60 months. Sure -- I have to pay for one extra year (Not if I can help it), but at least I get an uber alarm system with security and peace of mind, and the extended warranty on a brand new model car. I couldn't be happier, because personally I think it was a steal.

Vendian.

PS. Doesn't it seem like everybody wants to drive faster than you now . Also, makes quick work of traffic. Love it.

the only reason they sold you this car "gms" is cuz they made a ton of money off you on all the extra stuff you bought. Not to say you didn't get a good deal, but the dealership probably made the same amount of money that they would of if they sold the car at msrp with no extras.
