question about trade in?
question about trade in?
okay i have a 07 ss and i am trying to get rid of it somehow. Im still a little upside down on my loan and i dont want to keep making these huge payments anymore! But i am thinking about going back stock and trading it in. The only problem is that thehood has a dent in the front so i dont know if that will effect the trade in a lot or not. I was wondering if anyone knew about it and how much approx I may be able to get for it? And if anyone has a silver hood that they could part with?
well the only problem is that you bought it new I assume, so you are gonna take a hit for it . You can trade down but with the negative equity ur payments wont lower that much if at all. Some dealers will buy it straight up but they are still only gonna buy it for trade in value so you will still have the rest to pay for. And you will be responsible for giving them a clear title on it.
The only real way to get out of it and to lower ur payments is to put a few thousand dollars down
The good thing is that the 07 supercharged cobalt is not in NADA yet so they will appraise it usually at invoice less rebates and about 2-3000 after that.

be careful car dealers will rip you off for trades. when i was looking into trading my ss s/c in at a subru dealership for an sti, i had 3k mile on my car and he offered me 10k for trade on, i was like you gotta be kidding me, he's like i can talk to my manager but you not gonna get much more than that. he came back and offered me like 250 more. i found this so amusing i left and never thought about trading it in again. he was obviously trying to pull a fast one on me.
When I traded my 2005 SS/SC in on my GTO they gave me $14,900 I felt like I got screwed but 4 months later they only got $14,995 out of it.
The largest problems with dealers is that there number one job is to make money. These days they would rather buy questionable auction cars than give someone a decent price on a car they can see and touch.
After owning and selling or trading 28 different cars I have had plenty of experience with dealer BS and it has only gotten worse over the last 5 years.

Isn't that the point of any retail buisness? To make money. It's funny how everyone wants retail for there trade ins and want to pay wholesale for the ones they want to buy. You guys tend to forget that if ur trade needs brakes we have to fix it. I f there are dents, we have to fix it. If you smoke in it or it stinks we have to get the smell out. If it needs tires we have to put tires on it.If it needs a windshield we have to replace it. Would you buy a car that needed all that? NO. We can spend to upwards of 1,000 to just get the car ready to sell. Where I work the average shop bill for the used cars is $600.00+ think about that next time u trade your car in. Also using Kelly blue book or nada is not the bible. Just because it says your trade in is worth a certain amount doesnt mean that it is. It is used as a guide to go buy. Customers set the market on what vehicles are worth.
If a certain car is selling like crazy that means it is in high demand so they will bring more money when u trade them. If you trade in a big ass suburban that gets crappy gas mileage, those arent selling to well so we put less in them. People seem to forget that we have familys that we have to feed and support also. And the questionable auction cars you talk about have been inspected and have a 30 day buy back. Trade-ins could be driven hard and could have alot of problems.
Let me ask you something cody what do you do for a living ?

They will apraise your car at or right around what they can get that same vehicle from the auction lot at. That's how I got screwed on my 04 Trailblazer LS...Also one of the main reasons that I am trying to sell mine seperately.
I was just simply stating that it is bullshit when they try to sell a car for a book value the when apraising a trade they use auction values. How is that fair to any consumer, that is where trying to make money off of someone comes in.
I know how business works and am well aware of the fact that you don't get retail when trading cars in. I am also well aware of the fact that a guide like NADA or Kelly is just that a guide.
All things aside offering someone auction value is a joke. Add to the fact that the only difference between my car when I buy it and when I sell it is numbers on the odometer I consider auction value a insult.
By the way I own and operate Norfolks largest Lawn Care/Landscaping company.

And how would that be an insult to get auction value? all the cars in an auction come from other dealers that have had the cars fixed. yours could need brakes, it could have an oil leak
There is a difference between a consumer expecting a discount off asking price and a dealer screwing you on trade in. If a dealership paid MSRP for a car then sold it for MSRP then it would be fair.
There is a reason trade value is less than retail value, trade value was made up by resellers to make a profit. Futher discounting that like offering auction price is a low blow. I am very familiar with the auction scene and know that dealers will not tell you that the car that went for $X,XXX at the auction was yellow or black condition.
Plan and simple:
- To ask for a discount off MSRP is only removing from overall profit
- To offer a consumer auction value rather than trade in price is raising profit
I shop for vehicles in all over and any dealer that offers me auction value for any car I trade looses my business for two reasons.
One, it's just plain BS to think you need profit over the money I am loosing to trade value
anyway.
Two, it lets me know that you would rather take a chance on buying a car at auction and hope for the best so what the hell are you selling me.
In the last ten years of buying cars I have come to the realization that lawyers, Health Care, Insurance and Car Dealerships are one in the same. All that matters is money, money and money other than that who gives a ****.

Ok thats about the dumbest comment I have heard yet. How the hell would that be fair lets buy a car for 24,000 and heres a great idea lets sell it for 24,000 and make no money.
Lets see how about u come to my house and mow my lawn for $5.00. oh you can't why not? cause u have cost like maintenece on ur mowers, the comp for the guys mowing the lawns, the gas to put in the mowers. ur truck payment, ur house payment.
lets say your trade is worth 12,000. on nada trade value. and retail value is 15,000 But it needs tires $400.00, brakes are worn and squeaking have to turn the rotors and pads $350.00, and we detail every car $150.00 thats $900.00 b4 we even get it on the lot. So yea we are gonna take off of trade value if it needs these things.
I also am very familar with auctions seeing as how i have been doing this for 10 yrs but I dont know what dealers u go to that buy cars in yellow or red condition because those cars either have frame damage or have had major repairs on them. I only buy vehicles that have the green light when it comes across the lane because they have been inspected and have a 30 day buy back if we find something major wrong.
Ok one its not profit when u have to fix the stuff that is wrong with ur car to get it ready to sell. 2nd u didnt read that I said most banks only loan over a certain % over trade value which means if i put straight trade in on ur vehicle if it needed anything i would own it for over trade which makes the profit less. Yes I said profit.
Ok why the hell do you go to work everyday? I go to work to make MONEY. The more money I make the more I can support my family and have a good life for them. every buisness is about money if they weren't then why and how would they be in buisness. I guess you are a non profit orginazation?

Your obviously a car salesman or work at a dealership. The first thing they teach you pups is that everyone buys your bullshit and guess what we don't.
You can say all you want but in the end dealerships **** people on a daily basis. They screw you on trade screw you on the car they sell you and usually unless they made a whole lot of money or you know your **** they screw you on service.
Your most likely the kind of guy who love people who don't know what conquest rebates, holdback money and other rebates are all about just more cash in you pocket.
You are basically trying to convince me and other people here that car sales is honest and pure. Sorry but most of us wipe our own asses and know better.
And please don't compare lawn care to car sales, when I leave they have a nice looking lawn for around $50. They aren't wondering what the **** they got themselves into, why the intrest rate is 12% and when the hell they said add an extended warranty and gap insurance.

That is what buisness is all about to make a profit. If you were not making money in lawn care you would not be doing it. and $50.00 is alot to mow a lawn and fertilize 3 times a yr. i get charged to mow mine $35.00 and they work on my sprinklers if there is a problem also. soo... your ripping off your customers!! your making more profit than the guy that mows mine. See where this is going with this? And you say that car sales are not honest? When you file you taxes how much do you write off on your schedule C's? Lets see your net profit and loss on line 31. You probably show a loss for a the year or very little profit than you actually made. Yes i know about self employed people and how they get out of paying the tax that they really should I see it everyday. do you think that is very honest? And if you say that you report all your profit to pay taxes on, your full of it. And my customers know what they are getting when they leave the dealership warranty. etc. Heres is a pic of what the customers get when they are trying to buy a car. They know the interest, sales price, trade value, and payments and term. So you tell me where I am hiding anything?

And i can tell you why the interest would be so high if you ask. You probably have great credit so you would get the best interest rate. and if I cant get you the best rate then you can go to your own bank to see what they will get its your choice It's also your choice if you feel we are not giving you enough for your trade you can sell it your self again its your choice im not forcing you to buy or trade anything if you feel that you get screwed its your fault for doing the deal not mine. I offer you the best deal I can give if thats not good enough then don't buy from me it's that simple. And if all these people think they are getting screwed then why are they signing the contract? If they dont know what they are getting its there fault for not looking at the paper work b4 they sign something. I know if I am signing some sort of contract I'm gonna read the damn thing to know what i'm getting.
You do understand I don't care what you say right.
You **** people on adaily basis and are completely ok with it. You won't justify what is unjust to me so save the time and do something productive.
And please quit comparing what I do with what you do, it isn't one in the same.

I wouldnt doubt it seeing as how i cant write off everything I own and lie about what i made to the government and report that I made a loss for the year. Good job. You sure are an honest guy. You say car sales are all about money? Now whos all about money, money, money?
Hypocrite. Follow your own advice about not posting.
Have you ever heard of a 1099? Because thats what businesses file with the IRS to show a expense.
And do you think the dealership you work for writes stuff off?
