Yes,it most likely is leaking. One of the seals in the shock probably went bad due to dirt, salt or it was just faulty. My '04 Cavalier had one of the front struts start leaking when it had 8000 miles on it.It was replaced under warranty as should be the case with your Cobalt. There is oil in gas charged shocks and struts and if the seal goes bad or the strut or shock gets rusty the pressure will blow out the seal or a weak rusty spot and voila, wet shock syndrome.

wow only 12grand and your strut is leaking thats crazy!
i also agree with A.F.U. said i used to work at a gas spring company, your really lucky your warranty covered that, i would be screwed my car is lowered, they love screwing us modders when it comes to warranty.
btw where in PA is Malvern in relation to lancaster.

yup just hit 12000 today. so i am taking it to the dealer tomorrow but my check engine light is also on because of my intake, but my OBD reader needs to be replaced. so should i take the intake off before or not even mention it and if they call about the light then say something?

Malvern i think is about 45 min away. i back right up to the PA turn pike.

oh i would definately take it off cause that will void your engine warranty, normally if your just going in for an oil change or something simple they wont say anything, but on warranty work they will definately say something.
not sure if that will affect replacing your strut cause thats your drivetrain/suspension warranty and are diferent, but better safe than sorry.
also i bought my 07 in september and i already have 12,000 on it, lol.

Strut and shock seals can go bad from sitting too long, too. Most seals need to be lubricated, and in shocks and struts, that occurs from them actually doing their job. If the car sat the lot without being driven for a while, they could have had an issue from the start. I've actually had problems with shocks that sat on the parts shelve for too long, too.

also the seals are almost constantly covered in oil, the contents of the strut are under pressure so if the car isn't moving the oil isn't moving.

No, I'm saying that before you bought it, it could have sat on the sales lot too long. Thus, the problem could have been there when you originally purchased it, but become larger over time.

well, that fluke thing isn't a fluke thing - i'd worry more about your dealership than the car at this point.

Hmm, in that case, you might have to wait til it happens again and get them to tell you what codes it threw. Could be a bad PCM for example (warranty). Oh, and my dealer said dont worry about the AEM intakes cause they are dryflow, just like the GMPP CAI. - But I guess to be safe you might ask your dealer like "I want to get a CAI, will it void my warranty?"

In Pa you have to get a new car inspected after 1 year ? In Jersey it's 4 years. I don't have to go to inspection until 2010 !
