Radiator Hoses

Some of you up there in miles - when, if ever, have you changed out your hoses? I'm at 31k miles, planning a major maintainence weekend soon, and want to know if I should include these on my to-do list?

They wear from the inside out - if they're cracked, I've waited too long.

Feel them out, look for soft spots, bulges, etc. There should be absolutely no reason why they would need to be replaced, though. My CrownVic has 90k and is almost 20 years old, and the original hoses are still in decent shape.

I would hope they're still good as well, but after hoses failing in my last car, and seeing a friend of mine's STi burst a hose at 30k miles, I'm on the skeptical side. Being in AZ sure doesn't help - I don't even have to drive my car for the hoses to wear in the summer.

A lot of hose deterioration comes from dirty fluid. Make sure your coolant is always nice and clean and it'll prolong hose life.
