Raptor shift light

Whats up guys, I've just installed a Raptor shift light on my car yesterday and it appears to be working okay except that I get a few random occassions when I'm not near redline and the shift light will blink once. I'm wondering if maybe my settings aren't right?! I've got it set to 1 cylinder and at 6300RPM.

Now I read the how-to thread about the Raptor shift light and I saw that most were hooking it up with the boost gauge. Well since I have a 2.2 I couldn't do that and didn't want to run the wire to a fuse box so I wired the power to the cig lighter (i've read on other forums this is what others have done with their raptor shift lights), the ground to the chasis of course and then the green wire to the brown wire with white stripe under the hood.

Now at 6300 it'll blink just fine like its supposed to but I'll get random single blinks during deceleration or acceleration. I'm just wondering if maybe the settings should be different on a 2.2 from the 2.0 or maybe I should look elsewhere for the power wire. I also notice that it does not test the LEDs upon turning on the ignition. Is this normal? Oh and I double checked the connections to make sure they were all good...

What are your guys thoughts? Do you think its something wrong with the settings I have or should I re-think my wiring setup?

ok i really hate to say it but it could be your cell phone and interference. when i have my cell phone close to the light it will blink or go off because its reading some type of voltage. jus my opinion otherwise check your connections to make sure they are really tight.

is that a serious post or are you just givin me ****? i switched it to 2 cyl mode and I'm still havin the same issue.

I think I might have to use a different power source since the cig lighter isn't technically switched to my knowledge. That would explain why its not self testing. I was kinda iffy on puttin it there in the first place but didn't know where else to go.

yes that was a serious post, but if its not self testing(unswitched) then you should connect it to the fuse box.

I have an Interceptor for my redline. In the book it mentions an occasional random blink. Go to aeroforces website and read its manaul it explains why it does it. I assume you have the same deal.

alright I think its just my power connection, I'm gonna get the Add a Circuit from AutoZone and that should do the trick

alright instead of buying the add a circuit i just ran the power wire to my sunroof fuse...get the test lights now when turning the ignition so thats a good sign.

heres the deal though, I read the aeroforce website about the random lights and they say its rare and random. with my light it seems random but definitely not rare...

I think it may be the signal wire I'm using and my question is this...why splice into the brown/white wire and not the white/black wire? the white/black wire is the one that picks up the tach signal so it seems to me like it would make more sense being there. thats where my msd window switch gets its tach signal from.

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

I agree with this. cellphone interference? This is not recieving radio waves man. it is dependent on sensing pulses of voltage from an injector.

does it confirm the settings if you change them? if it doesnt and you also dont get a test cycle then for sure you want to contact raptor. that is why it is there, to ensure it is working as intended. I have had mine for almost a year and it works flawlessly.

were you not getting the test light b/c you had it hooked into a constant power sorce?(your cigg lighter)... now that it is hooked into your sunroof which the power cuts off with the ignition your getting that test signal when the light gets power.

It has to be connected to a switched source. That means when the key is turned power is available. The cigarette lighter has power even when the key is off. when I turn my key it does the diagnostics when power is available.

ok so I found my solution

I spliced into the tan wire, the same one I use for my digital rpm window switch...and I set the shift light to 2 cyl, same way again as I have it for my window switch.

No more random blinks, shift light comes on when its supposed to...problem solved.

Although in this mode the shift light doesn't blink when its time to shift, it just stays a solid color but I'm okay with that.
