Rattling coming from glove box
Rattling coming from glove box
Has anyone experienced rattling in their SS from around the glove box? It’s annoying the hell out of me. Has anyone attempted to fix it as well? Need to make it stop!

The glovebox rattles in my LS...annoying as hell... No idea how to solve it, it seems like the top left corner is the culprit in mine...maybe I'll put some rubber stopper thing in it and test that out..
Heck ya, mine does the same thing. i think one of the rubber feet is moving and that makes it rattle. It's the only damn thing in the whole car that makes a rattle.
However, I just turn the music up louder so I can't hear it rattle

I've had the same problem in my LS but as with Alley Cat's solution I just re-arranged things instead to make sure that the weight was as evenly distributed as possible. It still does it on occasion but I also have random rattles in other places on occasion as well...guess cars will inevitably have rattles somewhere no matter what you do

I have the same problem, the dealer tried to fix it... it worked for 1 day...
The rattling sound does not come from the glove box... it comes from the plastic on the right side of the radio.. under the dash...
When you hear the rattle, press on the plastic, you'll see..the sound stop..
For now i put some paper between the two parts of plastic and it's ok, but i want a real solution!

Mine is coming from the glovebox, when it was rattling the other day I held my hand on it and it was gone...until I took my hand off
I dunno guys. Im starting to think this might be a side effect of the cabin bein so damn quiet. Any little thing that I have in the cupholders or pullcups seem to rattle like crazy. Some of your dealerships seem to be major ******** since they dont really seem like they wanna help. I got in good with my dealer and now he seems eager to fix any problem I have. Im lucky to work at the Lordstown Plant because they tell me to bring it in so they can fix it and avoid warranty costs. If you guys have any questions about parts let me know and Ill see if i can find out. I'm a supervisor in the trim department and I see a lot of things going in. Love my Arrival Blue SS/SC.

I will post the pic as soon as possible!
My rattle is back, with or without the piece of rubber...
I went to the dealer, they worked 6 hours on the car to fix the rattle,
You know what? It's rattling again after one day! And I have one more rattle...

It's basically, in my case, the immediate right of the radio, the console material that goes down the side and eventually 90-degree turns under the glove box. If I put pressure at the 90-degree point (with glove box open of course to get at the spot!), the noise goes away. If I put pressure on the 'fanned out' part that hangs over the other material piece closer to the floor (maybe it's the fuse cover that tucks under it in just left of the glove box under dash? I forget now, not looking at it), the noise goes away. Even if I press in the center of that console material that is the to the right of the radio area I can make the noise stop. In fact tonight, I think I was able to make the noise by pressing/releasing the material in that center location.
Also of note, the climate inside the cabin makes a difference to... if it's hot and humid (material more pliable?), it's less likely to creak, but once the A/C drys things out or the weather is dryer, the rattle appears. It also doesn't have to be a rough road to make it rattle, it can be on normal flat highway driving 100km/hr
While looking in and around behind the fuse area and removed door, I didn't really see too much there to cause this sort of noise. There may be some bundled wire going by there, but other then that it's pretty empty there.
My conclusions are:
1) there is too much give and play in that overlapping piece of console
2) There's something I haven't found under the radio, behind that material that the plastic console pieces is making sporadic contact with.. but have to try and locate.
The only thing that can make it go away for me is to apply firm pressure anywhere on that overlapping piece of console above the fuse box cover area.
Any tips what may be there causing a rattle (or behind?)? Stuffing something between the two pieces of console material there doesn't seem to fully eliminate the noise and in fact it may actually encourage the overlapping piece to have a larger fanning effect at it's deepest point under the dash which may eventually increase rattles and contacts with glove box etc. over time.
The sound, for me, almost sounds like a cheap plastic hinge assembly that has parts that are too loose and allowed to vibrate, though I see no hinges in that part of the console and it appears not be the hinge bar under the glove box (kinda' like what I am describing it would sound like)
i gave up on fixing the plasic dash after numerous tries......its just the way its designed........ill just buy a car with better interior next time
go to the chevy dealer and sit inside a cobalt. push on the trim hard. now go to a honda dealer and sit inside a civic. do the same and you'll see why.

RE: Rattling coming from glove box
I ended up taking some electrical tape (best thing i had on hand at the time!) and doubled it back on itself a few times and placed it at the corner of the console and bottom left of glove box door. That corner of the console, where it turns to the glove box seems to be the worst spot. It's actually that whole console piece that overlaps the fuse door, as I mentioned above, that gets the rattle going it seems. As I said, if you push on that console piece anywhere (in toward the radio from the center, or push the corner at the bottom left of the glove box toward the front/engine compartment) the rattle subsides. I'm just trying to figure out a way to more formally fix it over using doubled up electrical tape.... =) Need something to push the console piece in, not have anything tucked in it to make it stick out More.
I'm trying to chase down a rattle in mine. I can tell it's coming from the passenger side somewhere, but it's hard to tell where specifically. I think it's either the glove-box, the trim piece above it, or the door panel. The door panel seems tight tho, so I'm thinking either glove-box or the right end of that trim piece.

- in the center of the console to the right beside the radio that is above the fuse area
- press on the overhanging piece of console material that 'flaps' over the fuse box door (same as above, just a bit lower toward the glove box is all)
- with glove box open apply pressure where that same console material makes the 90-degree bender toward the glovebox... that physical corner piece... push it foward toward the front of the car.
You may find all of thse stop the rattle? Naturally pay attention to your driving while you are playing around over there :-) :-)!! Or have someone in the passenger seat do it.
My rattle seems to behind that panel toward the radio and above the fuse box door. Still trying to isolate as it doesn't seem to be material on material (console)... it reminds me of a plastic hinge or something that the "sleeve" part is rattling, though I've yet to find anything in the area that would resemble this yet. The vehicle has to be cool and dry in order for it to do it, hot, humid, etc. there is none, so it leads me to believe it's material (expansion/rigidness?) in some form.
I took the doubled tape last night and put it between the flapping part of the upper console and the fuse box and this also seems to help.
Let me know what you discover. Once it takes to rattling, it sure is annoying.
Well I found a rattle in my glovebox and I found a solution. There is 4 screws located around the glovebox area. I noticed that they were only semi hand tight. I took a 7mm socket to them and tighended them up pretty good not flush but yet tighter than they were, and guess what? The rattle went away. Just make sure that you evenly distriubute the pressure of the screws on all four of them. It took me about 5 attempts of pulling under my carport tightening and then going back for a drive before I finally got rid of the rattle. Now only if i can get rid of the sunroof rattle all will be good, but i'm taking the car to the delearship for that, because its probably a loose sunroof cable.
