Rear-hit. What now?
Rear-hit. What now?
Hey guys.
Isn't there something sweeter than getting rear-ended by a 95 van at 10 MPH? Heh, I bet there isn't. Well, that's what happened to me this morning. I'm taking my brothers to school like I do almost everyday. I stop at the light behind a schoolbus, and up until then it's all good. Traffic starts to flow and I go behind the school bus.
Then, I realize the Bus makes a turn when the light's red( In a no turn-on-red spot ). I say "****" and apply my break moderately, I wasn't too fast anyway. Then, I stop, it's all good... then BAM. I feel something hitting me in the back.
First thing I think "God ******* damn it, why do these things happen when I JUST washed and waxed my car?". Look up, take a deep breath and get out. Turns out it wasn't as bad as I thought, but bad enough for me to want to change my rear bumper, or at least get it fixed and repainted, 'cause it's all scratched and has some pretty nasty bumps on it.
But I don't know if these bumpers can be fixed, since it seems to me they're made out of urethane or a pretty damn-hard plastic. If it's gonna cost too much to either fix it or get a replacement stock bumper, I might just go ahead and get myself a rear aftermarket bumper.
So, what'yall think?

Around the license plate, there's a pretty deep dent in the paint in the left side, and on the right side, it's mashed a bit. And can it be fixed? I thought bumpers were hella hard to fix.
@JPizzle:
Hah, yeah, it's what I thought about doing too. But she was pretty nice to me and she had the most damage anyway. We were both taking kids to school, didn't want things to get nasty.
And thanks, it's really good luck I need right now. Maybe I should get my ride to get baptized or something, 'cause everytime I clean it up and get it to look great... **** happens.

that's what i'm saying, if it's not a hole all the way though, like just a dent or really deep scratch, it can be fixed... if there's an actual hole, probably not.
i would take it somewhere, have them take a look.

Wow, thanks for that man, but I'd feel really bad accepting that. I really appreciate it, but I'll see what I can do here. It's not gonna cost me anything anyway, since she was considered at fault for the accident.

it will cost your deductible... if the cost to repair is less, or even slightly over, it's probably smarter to just not go through insurance.
It shouldn't cost him a dime, it should go through the van driver's insurance not his. And she would be liable to pay for ALL damages to his car so there wouldn't be a deductable.
Yeah I gotta check that deductible thing first with my insurance company. Florida's pretty messy when it comes to insurances, since there're a lot of people here who are driving without insurance and all.
@JPizzle:
Yep, I told my mom he had offered his and she said "what a nice guy!".
Btw, I'm giving my dad a call now. He's 18-months straight without giving me a penny, so now I'm gonna rip him off.

i didn't realize that... i thought you still had to pay your deductible, regardless of who was at fault... i've never had someone hit me, so i could be wrong i guesss. thanks for clearing that up.
I Say To Just Claim Pain And Suffering From You Wreck To The Guys Insurance Company And You Could Get Enough On That To Buy You A Whole Body Kit And An Alpine Turbo Kit........... Wow ............... And Wheels And Tint... Damn Thats Alot Of Cheese!!!
Aced it in one. I would give her a chance to pay all of it without going through the insurance company first if she was a nice lady, since it will keep her premiums from going up.
It can be fixed here is what the back of my car looked like after a friend ran into the back of me.
Looks like its brand new now. I wish I had a good picture of the back but I dont right now

Not a problem! Unfortunately I know because some girl drove up a street the wrong way and then tried to angle park the opposite way, turned and took out the entire side of my Cavalier. Her insurance handled everything and it didn't cost me a penny.
if you get a new bumper (check ebay, the rear black bumpers are common) lemme know, i'll buy your bumper..mine is sunburst orange..that paint is expensive..and half of my bumper is missing. I'm in florida too.
Actually that's not always the best case scenario. I was in a wreck where I hit someone else to avoid being hit by a school bus. My family and I talked to our insurance agent about premiums and how it would affect them, she said a minor collision would have no impact on my premium (I was 20 at the time, and she was right it did not affect it at all), but I'd have the protection of the insurance company on everything. Say he came back later to claim an injury or said that the repairs weren't fixed properly, I'd have to pay all of that as well, I couldn't file a claim at a later date after I'd already paid him for the repairs.
@SSNASHVILLANSS:
Haha, wow, that'd be nice. But nah, I don't want the lady to go through too much trouble either. If she had been an ass, complained about why I didn't turn on the red light and stuff, I'd surely go after her ass and taken whatever I could off of her.
@InfinityzeN:
Well, I don't have her contact information myself, but I might be able to find it on the police report. I'll go get an estimate on how much the repairs will cost and then I'll see what I should do. Sucks that I got a test on thursday, and I can't get it done 'till next week.
@xtremeGM:
Oh, good yours could be fixed to look like new, but mine's a little worse than yours, I think. But without taking a look up close it's hard to say. I'll just go get a few estimates and see how much I might be spending on this. If it's just a minor price to pay, I'll keep the bumper. If it's more costly, I'll get an aftermarket one.

GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND!!!!!
@kenhebe:
Oh, thanks for that, man. Now I have at least a basic idea of how much it might cost. I'll head down to the dealership and a few other body shops around here to get estimates. If it's over 400 bucks, I might just get an aftermarket rear bumper.

But I also didn't have to pay for it so like you said I don't know if it is worth it to be fixed. I just know it can be fixed.
