Redline not at 6500...wtf?

I kept hitting my rev limiter on shifts and figured out that my rev limiter kicks in at 6250 and NOT 6500. WTF is this all about?

You are probably hitting really close to 6500RPM, but the gages in these cars are SLOW... they a bit behind the actual engine speed. I had a Daytona that was the same way.

Besides, why do you want to rev to 6500RPM in the first place... the car is ready for another gear by 6000RPM... shift it, boy, shift it!

The car is still making power up to redline.

Thanks for the explanation guys.

I think the motor needs a 7k redline too AND a longer first gear.

Also depending what gear your in the tack is alittle behind in the first, second and sometimes third. so when ur in first and second by the time the engine tacks out at 6450 and the tack says 6200/6300 its actually at 6450. when you get into gears 3/4/5 thats when you see a more accurate reading of the rpms, unless you are in gears 1/2 and taking off fairly slowly and keeping it at a slow and steady pace then the rpms are ALOT more accurate.

I would prefer a 7250 redline. This car would be ridiculous with that as a redline.

yeah no kidding but at 7250 your gonna mostlikely replace the internal springs b/c if i remember correctly they will not last very long at that high of an rpm

Better yet, what about the timing chain. Can that thing handle high RPMs? You might be able to change the springs but we don't have a timing belt. Im not sure what happens with timing chains at high rpms.

That's funny, mine feels smooth as silk up to redline. Mine screams "GIVE ME MORE RPMS YOU *****!" but fuel cutoff gets in the way of that. This engine should be set at 7,000.

the timing chain will handle well beyond our redline and all they need to do is plug in to your car and then they know how you are driving it

I shift mine at like 5800 or 6000 RPMs. I can tell a difference from shifting there and 6500 because it seems like mine does lose power if I shift at 6500 where-as i dont as 5800. 1st gear is a turd in this car though.
