remote start question
remote start question
i just got the Compustar Pro P2W9000FMR installed and this question is to whomever has a compustar remote start. where do they put the module? i want to change it to run to 25 mins from 15 mins. i really dont want to drive all the way back there again when its just a switch. let me know.
you need to go to compustar.com and email them and ask what dealers have them in your area. and it cost me 400 bucks for just the starter.for some reason they still gave me the alarm and i told them i didnt want the alarm or keyless entry.
thats the one i got lol... but halfcent, i have an appt for them to switch the run time for me but i dont want to drive that far again just so they can flip a switch.i already looked it up and its just an on/off switch on the module. my question is that i have no idea where they put it. under the dash maybe? no clue.if anyone knows help me out.
They put mine behind the little drawer you pull out thats to the left by the trunk release. They pushed the sides of it together and got it to come off of there somehow, probably easier to just take the panels off. But anyways im pretty sure thats where it is.
Modules for alarms and or remote starts, are always buried up in the dash where ever they fit. If you lay on your back on your floor, then look up in the dash with a light so you can see. You should be able to spot the brain for it. I know this from being an ex installer for years. I've installed my share of Compustar's as well. It was a good choice you made.
for obvious reasons
i know for a fact that best buy wont
just under the steering wheel there is a panel that entirely pops right out. thats where they put mine mine is "Command Start"
thats untrue cause i got a 5 speed pursuit they installed it on mine although it took them 5 hrs... what would these obvious reasons be?

It is 100% legal to have a remote start in a manual transmission car as long as it's the correct unit. You can't just take any old remote start and put it in. It has to be the correct style to be legal. So with that said, the only obvious reason as you are saying would be they don't have it or don't know how to do it!!
I have the same unit. It seems to work a lot better than some of their older units. Manuals require the car to be put in reservation mode in order to actually use the remote start function. Only certain model remote starts are designed for manuals, therefore you have to get one that is. This is how reservation mode works on manuals....directly from the compustar book...
To use the remote-start function on a manual transmission vehicle, you must first set Reservation Mode. Reservation mode sets the vehicle up
to safely start the next time you use the remote-start. To set Reservation Mode, follow these steps:
1. Completely stop the vehicle and put it in NEUTRAL.
2. Set the emergency brake and remove your foot from the foot brake.
3. A few seconds later you should hear a click.
4. Turn the key off and remove it from the ignition. The vehicle will stay running.
5. Exit the vehicle and close the door.
6. The vehicle will shut off, the system will arm, and the doors will lock.
Reservation Mode has now been set. The following actions will cancel Reservation Mode; opening the hood, doors, or trunk, turning on the
ignition, releasing the emergency brake, turning on the ignition, or triggering the alarm. If reservation mode is cancelled, you will need to get in
the vehicle and repeat the setup process.
Most of which is true. I can still get in my trunk and the car remains in reservation mode. My alarm can be triggered and still will stay in reservation mode. The only way mine leaves reservation mode, is if the doors are opened. The remote has a little key showing if the car is in reservation mode and able to be started. Otherwise, no key...no start. It is an awesome unit.

i work at best buy and i know they legally cannot install remote start on a manual transmission. this is because in the state of PA you cannot legally park your car in neutral which you would have to do with remote start. it sounds strange, but it is in fact a law that you must park your car in gear at all times. they don't go crazy with enforcing it, but because of that installation shops can't do it...now if you know them well enough (ie if you work with them) they'll do it for you but legally they can't...i know this is all true for PA not sure of other states

Then come over the border to Ohio and get one installed.
best buy wouldn't install one in my car because of liability reasons. theyre example was if the vehicle is left in gear, then started via remote, the vehicle will obviously smash into whatever is in front of/behind it
you can install a mercury switch in the car, that way if you leave it in gear, use the remote start, the car will lurch forward a few inches but the mercury switch will then disable the clutch...not sure entirely how it works, but it does...like i said my store will do it for people they know, so pretty much all the employees with manual cars have the remote start and the mercury switch really works, the car will only move a few inches
Tell them they need to get their heads out of their A**!! There are special remote starts that are made for manual transmissions!!
how r they liable if ur stupid enough to leave it in first its totally the owners fault
