Resale value for the Cobalt?

Anyone know if the Resale value of the Cobalt is a lot better than it was with the Sunfire/Cavalier curse?

Seeing as it's 10X better car on a new frame with a better warrenty I would tend to think it would.

I have a 07 2.4 SS(5 Speed W/ Pwr Sunroof) and If I decided to trade her in after a few years I was wondering how much of a hit would I take if I have around 50K on her by that time.

/edit: No I don't hate my car, I love her, I am just curious.

yahoo has a chart that will show you the devaluation and you can also use kbb to kinda get an estimate

I had 14.5K miles on my 05 SS/SC with Side air bags and sunroof and I got 15.3 when I traded it in for my GTO 14 months after I bought it. But the 07s were hitting the lot so I think they hit me with 2 years of depreciation.

it'll suck...if re-sale value is your main key for buying a car...Domestic is not the way to go...lol

I never figured out why Toyota resale value is through the roof. We had a 99 Tacoma that someone traded in with 140k and we sold it for approx 11k.

The same truck in a Ranger goes for maybe 7 if you're lucky.

And don't give me this BS about not being made in America makes it better. You've all seen the new Tundra commercials specifying made in America.

Carmax offered me 11.5 for my 06 SS/SC with 22000 on it . Went to a dealer the same afternoon and was offered 18.5. Considering the last few batches of 06s were still rolling onto dealer lots, I was impressed. :

Don't get me started on the Tundra commercials, it's bad that "professional grade" GMC is now selling fuel economy and f'ing Toyota is selling big beefy parts and power.

For the most part is because of the quality of the cars. Toyota's and Hondas just last forever. You want a car that you can count on for 200K+ miles, you know they will and domestic cars typically don't last as long as the Japanese imports.

It's funny that alot of American named cars, Ford Chevy and so forth, are made out of the US in places like Mexico, while the best selling Japanese makes are oftentimes now being made in America (or at least North America). Unfortunately, that's just the way it is. The good thing is, it doesn't hurt our economy, because we are producing the cars that sell like hotcakes, so our people are getting jobs and making money. The Names behind them however are just names nowadays it seems and not the country actually producing them.

Thats an important word. I over looked that word the 1st time I read your post. I had my 01 Grand AM GT at 100,000miles when it was totalled out. Ran like the day I drove it off the lot. Technology these days has made it so any vehicle, WITH PROPER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE will last a very long time. Of course, not many people stick to the routine my father taught me when I was a young pup. Oil every 3,000 period, no matter the type of oil or filter. Rotate tires EVERY oil change. ETC ETC. I stick with that system and have not once had a problem (knocking on my wooden table).

Now of course, you will always run into recalls and manufacturer defects and poor workmanship, so don't flame me for the "any vehicle" part of this post.

Granted, that most cars, if taken care of properly will last considerably longer than the average, but even those same type of people that own imports, TYPICALLY have longer lasting cars and more success with the imports. I hate to see it that way, but when looking at the situation as a whole, imports, statistically speaking, TEND to last longer than domestic cars.

Of course you are one of the exceptions to the rule, you DO maintain your car well, but you are one of few. Too many people like you said, do NOT do the proper maintenance, but these same types of people own imports too, and like i said earlier, more success is had with them because they just hold up better.

Just an F.Y.I. You can't base the value of your car from what is written in a book like KBB or any of the other ones if you are trading it in at a dealer. The dealers base what they are going to give you for your car from what the car is going for at the auctions. That's one reason why you guys are seeing a difference between each of you. If there is a demand for the car at the auctions, then the dealer will give you more for it. If the demand isn't that big at the auctions, you will get less from the dealers. And I am speaking as a previous car salesman.

The American cars that were made in the late 80's early 90's gave the domestic auto makers a bad name. All though I have had success with my cars so far many have not. I had a 87 Cavalier as my first car that had 350,000 miles on it when I sold it. Ran great and I really didn't take care of it as well as I should have. My dad ran into the kid I sold it to at a car dealer he worked for and the kid told him that he sold it two days prior with 100,000 more miles on it and it still ran great with no major engine work done to it. 450,000 miles and still going is pretty dependable if you ask me. I have seen that allot with cavy's, escorts, tempos, and even a few neons.

My family has always been a dodge family. My dad drove his neon to and from work and put on 160k+ miles in a 6 year period with no major work done. We also have a '92 dodge spirit that has over 100k on it and runs like the day it was picked up. My first car was a '89 Dodge Dynasty and it had 178k on the motor and ran great until the headgasket went (too lazy to fix it...new car yay). We also picked up a '65 Olds Cutlass Convertible with over 310k on the clock and it still ran strong, even with the worn down crank!

It really does come down to how you treat the car, maintenance wise and driving wise. If you floor it at every traffic light you'll have a problem in the future. If you don't chance the oil regularly you're going to have a problem...etc. As for the SS/SC, it's a great solid motor but because of all the mods available and boost and what not,, if you don't take it easy with this car, I wouldn't expect it to last long.

Like I explained earlier in this thread. The books don't buy cars!!! The dealers base what they give you on a trade, from what the cars are going for at the auctions!!!
