Rev limiter on auto

is there a way to remove the rev limiter on the automatics? is the dealership capable of removing it? i know they might not want to, but i have a good friend there and he would be able to do it if it is able to be done. thanks

He probably means the one that dosen't allow you to go past 4k in neutral.

Honestly... that's there to protect the engine and transmission. There really isn't a need to rev the engine that high with no load on it... can it can cause problems.

Just one more of the fun things about having an automatic.

At least once a month we get a guy angry about the 4k limit in neutral... why do so many automatics wanna neutral drop? or is it that they just wanna be able to rev their engine up against the guy next to them. lol.

yeah, when a car is reving that high under no load at all, there really is nothing keeping the power in check, so the potential for damage is greater.

i've seen it happen 3 times now. first time this guy dropped it from about 5k, second time some ricer put it into gear and his trans fell out the bottom of his car...3rd time some old guy tryin to race dropped it from like 7k into first and just assraped his clutch...sometimes I think manuals need a rev limiter?

the only point of a rev limiter ib ab auto is so you don't neutral drop. I had my limit removed in my equinox, drove it for 40k miles no issues...but then again I never ever neutral dropped LOL

You are stupid if you rev it up in N and drop it in gear because you can say to your tranny or axels.

from my post about the 3 morons? nope, all manuals...which made it so much funnier. thats why i think ALL cars need a rev limiter..but they all need a way to turn it off for people who actually know how to drive.

edit: Seriously..why do manuals need to rev to redline in N???? they dont...
