ROCK Question.....?

I drove over a rock tonight about the size of a volleyball. It smashed this metal bar under the front of my car and seems to have smashed into the oil pan or something causing it damage too...

Anyone know if my insurance will cover this?

just fix it yourself.... not worth going to the insurance.... that means rates go up for you if you go to them

It looks like I have bent the aluminum on my engine where my oil pan is bolted. Is this fixable?

If it's the pan itself, just replace it - if it's the engine block, call the insurance

More than likely the bar that you are talking about is what is known as the engine cradle.

GM part number 22700086. Just that part alone is $865.23. Part plus installation is about $1400. Yes your insurance will cover this as long as you collision coverage. That is what it would fall under. If you have any other questions I can help you with let me know. I manage a collision center.

not colision, i think this goes under comprehensive... either way, insurance would cover it... if the cost of parts and labor is less then your deductible, either do it yourself or have someone do it. can you post a few pics so we can get a better idea of the actual damage?

It would go under collision since he collided with an object. If you hit a light post, a curb, a cow, a house it is collision. If you hit a ... it is collision. If someone steals your car, lights it on fire, shoots it, pours brake fluid all over it, busts out all the glass, steals your rims and tires, keys it, gets hit with hail, tossed around by a hurricane etc... that is comprehensive.

Trust me, I work with insurance claims every day.

I was driving a 1997 Tahoe about 4 months back and the left rear wheel literally fell off at 70 MPH on the freeway. That scared the crap out of me.

My point is that is was covered under our comprehesive.
