Saturn Sky - Thoughts?

So I seen a yellow Sky on the road today and I thought it looked pretty good. 19" chrome wheels, lowered (really low), not to flashy, not to bad. I forgot these cars had the LNF engine with the turbo. Is this the same engine going into the HHR? Is the transmission the same in the HHR as the Sky, Solstice? A potential Cobalt Turbo will use the HHR setup likely. Is it all the same?

My final thought, how does the Sky compare against the Pontiac Solstice? Knowing GM so well I'd say these cars are based on the same body but I don't know? Same engine?

Will Solstice and Sky parts overlap?

I'm to lazy to look it up and I was curious what people thought anyways.

I also forgot that I remember there was going to be a limited Mallett V8 conversion for this car. Did that ever happen? If so did anyone ever see one?

I believe they are pretty much the same thing with just different sheetmetal layouts. Though all skys don't have the LNF neither do Solstices only the redlines and gxp's have the LNF....

the sky and the solstice are the exact same mechanically, the only real differences are body work and standard/optional equipment, plus the saturn has a higher premium

The base models have the same 2.4 (LE5) engine.

Sky Redline and Solstice GXP is the same 2.0 (LNF) engine.

Same chassis, same engines/setup.

LOL Reading through the thread I was just thinking the Solstice looks about 1000 times better. I guess its all a matter of preference.

Yeah the sky looks so much better, IMO. But yes it is a matter of opinion. They are damn near the exact same car, but the grill on the solstice is too big for me.

I like the regular sky over the solstice and I like the solistice GXP over the sky redline just a matter of perference really. There is a black solistice GXP in the town I live in...what kills me though is a teenage girl owns it that is really ditzy and probably has no idea what her parents got her, and that kills me too having parents buy their teenagers high end cars like that for their first vehicle.

Picture?

I'm looking at a rebuild Sky/Soltice as my next project I think. I'm pondering waiting for a HHR to hit the block (or a tree) and get wrote off by a granny driver or stupid 16 year old. I suspect alot of HHR's will hit the bone yard fast.

My rebuilt 2.2 Cobalt has no tune....... stupid auto.

I hope you got some cash

Even used Solstices with the LE5 2.4 motor are expensive.

I'll take a blown motor and rebuild it but I think you've missed my idea.

Will the Turbo HHR SS motor fit into the Sky? It is LNF? Will the Sky/Solstices tranny bolt up to the HHR LNF? I believe it could be adapted.

You are more of an expert NJHK then I could ever hope to be so please tell me I'm crazy and spend my money on something that I can get in and drive down the street =)

Sorry just saw your post...

Thing is

Skys aren't a dime a dozen. It's not like you can walk down the street to a junk yard and buy a Sky there. Even if they did have a sky there, more than likely it's wrecked and not a blown engine.

The 2.4 Skys are going for mid 20s thousands. Even if you found a wrecked one, it's going to be over 10k. That's just finding the car in the first place.

The LNF motor has ONLY been out for a couple years and the HHR SS is not even out yet, so trying to get your hands on a motor from a car that is JUST coming out is not very feasible if you're talking about junk yard wise. If you wanted to buy it from GM themselves, I hope you got some cash as well. I couldn't imagine it would be cheaper than 3500.

It's a MUCH more expensive project than you would think.

Just saying, it's not like picking up a hatchback civic and going to the junk yard for a B18...parts and cars are going to be much more rare.

I like the sky much more than the solstice. if i were in the market for a new car right now, those two would be at the top of my list. obviously, the sky looks better. and It would by my first choice, all things being equal.

One thing i've seen, and there could be a reason for it, or it could be just how things are, I don't know. The solstice does extremely well at autocross events in the stock class (C stock I believe) while I've yet to see a sky even show up for a race. I have heard thats because (and I have not done any research to confirm this, so take it with a grain of salt) the solstice is a better handling car, because its lighter and has wider tires.

the coolest thing about them, is they are in the same market as the corvette when you look at the Mallett cars (with the ls2, or ls7). and they cost less than a vette, but perform better.

If I were buying one, I would most likely go with the pontiac because of the lower costs (there is a huge dealer mark up over sticker on Sky's), and lower insurance costs. with a body kit they can look pretty good... If money were no object I would have a sky...

The Solstice and Sky are the just like a 'Balt and an Ion so a lot of the underbody parts should be interchangeable. I got to test out a Sky a while ago and it's a very sweet car. However, there is ABSOLUTELY NO SPACE! At least Corvettes are halfway practical because you can carry stuff around.

the solstice/sky both have the base models with the 2.4 engine in them

they look very nice, but seen far too many old middle aged women cruisin in them

the gxp/redline versions make the car really nice

overall its a very nice "roadster", wanna test drive that pup for kicks
