Shift Knob Removal?
Shift Knob Removal?
I have an 07 G5, and the shift Knob is the one with the shift pattern on it, I looked and looked, and can't find a way to get the sucker off, and searched with no avail as how to remove it.
Does this thing come off or do I have to break out the saws all?

Its a bitch and a half
you have to pry it off with two (big ass) flat head screw drivers. When it comes off, it will fly at your face... Its pressed on, so after you take it off, you better have a plan ....

I seriously had to muscle the freaking thing off with a couple of screwdrivers like Johnboy said. It's about the only part in the interior that's a bitch to get off.
if it is like the ss/sc shiftre pop the top off then drill a small hole through the knob in the center. then use a self taping screw with a flat bottom. screw it into the hole.It will push the knob up and off the shifter.
Wow, I guess I'll just stick with my stocker...sounds like a lot of work for something that doesn't have any direct fit aftermarket shifters...
I kinda wanted the hurst T handle shift knob.

well with my 06 ss/sc i had to pry the shift pattern off, underneath is a torx screw that holds the shifter on, i unscrewed that and took two screw drivers, only moderate force is required, took me like a total of 30 seonds for the removal
Mine doesn't have that lockout.
x2. Only my screw was a phillips, not a torx. But anyways, took that screw off and used two small flatheads and it popped off without too much force. But ya, it almost hit me right in the eye, lol.
just installed my hurst yesterday.
I had to take the top plate off, and underneath it is a screw that needs to be removed.
after that you shove 2 flat screwdrivers, one on either side, up in the gearshift knob from below.
and pry it up.

I had to pull the shift know today to replace the boot. Not an easy task. Most of your post were very helpful for me. I popped the diagram cap off the top with a screw driver. It is very easy to mess up the leather cover on the actual knob so take care in removing the diagram cap. Then I removed the star/torque screw as mentioned. Then I used two flat head screwdrivers, one on each side, under the knob itself, to carefully pry it off. It took some force but was not to difficult. I then had to use the screwdrivers to pop the trim from around the bottom of the boot. It has two snap type clips on the front and the rear trim slides right out once the front snaps are popped loose. I pulled the entire boot up and over the shift rod and the shift gear mechanism came up with it. I noted the way the "blue" piece came off as to be able to reassemble it. I was able to slide the top of the boot from the shift rod and the bottom required I remove several staples to get it off. Note the way the boot is attached to the bottom. Replace it all in the opposite order. Good luck.
