How come my 08 ss/tc has a place for a shift light on the dash but it does not seem to work? I noticed yesterday on the top right middle of the gauge cluster is a little + which is a shift light yet it never lights up.

mine has got one too...but its a 2.2 automatic

 

it does not even come on at red line lol, I was just wondering if it is even functional at all? I don't think it is tho.

 

Nope, only functions on manual 2.2s and 2.4SS's

 

I have a 07 S/C and my shiflight has yet to come on..last night i was even bouncing off rev limiter in 2nd gear and nothing came on..


oh i didnt even see that post..yeah then i guess its only functional then..lol

 

is there any way to enable it to turn on in a 07 sssc?

 

When I first got my 2.8 pulley on and did the very first pull I had a orange shift arrow pop up at 7500 rpms and havent seen it since

 

Nope.

 

Dunno about the TC's but the shift light in the S/C's comes on to indicate high-octane mode when the Stage 3 kit is installed, hence why it doesn't work as a shift light.

Don't know if that means a similar kit is coming for the TC's, but it'd be cool if it did.

 

i've had mine come on, just a quick flash and that was it.

I completely forgot about that.

 

Yeah, it's going to come on all models because because GM isn't going to design a whole specialized gauge cluster for the shift light on just the 2.2 & 2.4 manual cobalts.... It's just one generic gauge cluster, helps save costs, etc... You all know why.

But yeah, so it's going to show up on the rest of our cars yet it's just going to be disabled.

Makes sense methinks, 2500 is about right for the best mileage... but who cares about mileage anyway?

 

Yeah it kicks on @ a low RPM probably signaling an upshift to get better fuel mileage rather than shifting @ a higher RPM or just before redline...

My mom had a Saturn Vue with a 5spd. (1st Gen Vue) and the shift light would kick in as soon as like 2300RPM's...

 

Me. I never usually shift past 2500

 

You would if you had a blower.
