Shifter

How does the shifter come off on the 2.2L?

I want to cut it down a tiny bit, but I'm not sure on how you take it off exactly, and I really don't want to break anything; so I figured I would ask first.

Exactly, how is the knob removed on the LS?

How the hell is that ghetto?

Because I want my shifter a little shorter because it's so damn tall..?

Ghetto is cutting down the stock shifter which does nothing to shorten the shift. Not ghetto is getting a proper short shifter which actually moves the pivot point giving a shorter throw.

twist the boot where it connect to the knob shaft thingy, thwist it, u will feel a po, than pull th boot down, and pull the knob up, that will release it, but you will need another knob, b/c ur going to most likely need to cut below the little snapping spot for the stock knob, if u dont than it will stay the same ehight

Wow..

I know what a damn sts is dude.

I know this won't shorten the throw.

I'm talking about just shortening the shaft because it's too high for my liking.

Christ.

twist the top of the boot counter clockwise, you will feel it unlock. push the boot down. then pull on the knob. it will pop right off. where you go from there is up to you. later.

Good luck getting the knob and boot to work properly with a shortened shaft.

Shortening the shaft will reduce travel across the shift plane. Imagine if you lengthened it... 2 ft longer would add several inches to the movement between gears (if you only moved it from the top of the shaft). Sadly, shortening a few inches doesn't yield much for result. But lemme know how it goes, I kinda wanna chop mine as well.

Just get a STS. Better than cutting stock, cause you can always replace the stock back should there be an issue.

To get the knob off, twist the base and then pull the knob off.

But just go on ebay and find a 2002-2005 Cavalier short shifter (we have the same tranny as they do) for like $20 plus shipping. It's much better to just get a short shifter because the stalk is straight, where as on the stock shifter the stalk is bent.
