Short Ram air vs. Cold air intake
Short Ram air vs. Cold air intake
Hey everyone I just finished my first mod, which was a DC strut bar, and the difference is awesome. The second thing I was gonna do was put on an intake. I was a bit confused about which one to get and people were telling me that a short ram air intake was better then a cold air intake because it doesn't suck in water like the cold air one does. Is this true, and what are the differences b/w the 2?
well, we need to know what cobalt you have.
if its a 2.4 a short ram would be good
if its an ss s/c, ram air is pointless cause the blower sucks in air much faster than you could jam it in there by driving fast.
if you install the cold air properly, and replace the plastic shield, water should not be a problem. (if you're still worried about water, you could run a bead of silicone sealant around the seam of your plastic shield)
*note: on the ss s/c, the location of the stock airbox is in the same location a cold air intake would go
the difference is, the short ram is setup behind the headlight (you have to take out your light for the benefits) and jams air into the engine due to car speed.
the cold air intake is alot farther away from the engine and recieves cooler air (colder air makes better power due to air density) this helps out the eaton m62, especially when you have aftermarket pullies spinning it really fast (the eaton tends to get hot)

cai reguardless unless it doesnt fit..u can always have splash shields but the air temp in ur engine bay is gonna be to much for a short ram..short ram is for like a functional ram hood or someone running hood less other than that cai ftw
Unless you like driving through 2 feet of water frequently, the CAI is just fine. I don't understand why people ge so freaked out about CAIs. I guess its just hard to ignore horror stories. lol
CAI FTW!
CAI FTW!
if u wanna be cheap do the air box mod..i have k and n typhoon..some people dont liek them cuz they need to be recharged..its up to personal likes..fujita is nice so is injen..pick a color u want i just like k and n's filters..aem makes a good one too..plus when u install it there is a little plastic piece u can leave to black from anything coming straight up so the air comes from the side i'll post pics for u when i get my car back from being air bagged
i went with AEM, and never had a problem. no check engine light.. (i did eventually get one, but it was a catalitic converter code.. the intake was fine)
thats why i said take out the headlight.. (at the track)
but it dosent matter cause he dosent have a 2.4

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but why would a 2.4 be better with a short ram?
i have my injen coming tomorrow and am at a split of what to do with it.
some say sold air, others say short ram.
speciafically on a 2.4 whats the difference?
I had the one were u could conver from short ram to Cold Air. I prefer the Cold air it was louder in short ram mood and response was a lil bit better but cold air gave me a gains up top and felt better to me... also dont worry about the water just avoid huge puddles and i mean huge puddles I was ok with my intake
I have a custom Spectre sri connected to the stock airbox just to maintain cold air. Definetly felt a difference in throttle response. Even better with the AC off. Could be a little better if I get a K&N drop in.
