Sick of those cobalts lol

Just kidding... although its kind of true I see many many many of them... Hello everyone, i'm new to the forum. I don't own a cobalt just yet but considering parking the truck and buying one with the gas prices. I am a 23 year old production worker at Lordstown and I am glad to see people are pleased with the product we produce. I install the antennas there (not the actual antenna but the inside bracket and base) I grab the antenna wire from the trunk, pop on the rubber antenna base, plug the wire into the metal bracket, push the bracket with the piece attached that the antenna screws into through the base on the inside, secure the wire, and shoot the 2 bolts that hold it in about 600 times a day. We are transitioning to the 09 models now so they are working us up to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.

I gotta say though, those SS's look good. Really strongly considering purchasing one. Came to the forum for some feedback from owners.

Love the Cobalt SS's so much that I have 2. An 06 SS/SC and a 07 SS sedan with the 5 speed in sport red tint. Def much better cars than I had before. As an item for suggestion, please do something about the antenna. It makes the car look like an r/c toy. I recommend a died and tapped Honda S2000 antenna. They look so good that I know of quite a few people in UT and CO that did that mod.

Welcome aboard! I've had my 07 SS SC since the start of 9.1.06 and love it!
Only one problem so far, a faulty tensioner pulley killed a Stage II belt and hoodliner... all warranty covered though!

welcome to the site man, I have an 06 ss/sc well was an s/c (check the vid in my sig lol) they take well to modding and I still get in the 36mpg range on the highway. I'm sure the ss/tc model will take well to the aftermarket too.

My bracket broke a few weeks ago!!!! Never bring a cobalt to a carwash if you have a spoiler, have already had two. Mine is an '06. Other than my lemon problems it is a great car, especially if you have the side airbags. sadly, I do not

If I stay for overtime and drive the cars off the line when offered, I would be able to tell you that, which I rarely do with the mandatory overtime, 54-65 hours total right now during the transition period provides me with more than enough money to live on. Theres so much going on in the plant right now with the third shift being added and the hiring of 1400 new people. I rarely get to go to far beyond my station as I have been walking in just as the line is starting which I have to stop, cuz I'm starting to rack up those tardys. As far as the sunroof buttons falling out, I highly doubt that is a workers fault as the inspection process is insane and a vast majority of cars we build go to repairs for very minor issues (GM is rightfully so insane about quality now), most likely bad parts on the sun roof.

I honestly can't wait till they add that third shift cuz this is just too much overtime and we are being way overworked... I pretty much work all night, come home.. eat, shower, and go to bed... Get up in the early afternoon after about 6 hours of sleep and pack my lunch and head back to work. If I have one day off.. which is sunday, I do nothing but sleep all day, I didn't even visit my dad for fathers day cuz I didn't want to get out of bed... Im just turning 23, and I have bags under my eyes (as do most of the people at the plant right now) which are making me look like im 40. My girlfriend said I looked like I aged 10 years in a few weeks and im like thanks honey. But at this rate its gonna take a while to fill all those positions, in the latest new hire group, I heard only 38 out of 143 passed the hair follicle drug test.

But can't wait to buy a cobalt and start saving on gas. Nice little cars.

Well, I am pretty new to working there so I havent progressed to the full wage yet. I started at 18.75 an hour about 2 years ago when I started as a temporary and am now up to 24 dollars an hour, and I get raises every 6 months till I get to 28, which will be in about a year and a half maybe 2 years. I believe the cap for production right now is 28.75 an hour. Anything over 8 hours in one day is time and a half pay, Saturday is time and a half, sunday is double time, and holidays (which anyone rarely gets offered to work holidays) is triple time. However, the new hires got it tougher, they get 401ks instead of pensions, they start at 14 to 16 dollars an hour, and their health care benefits aren't as good as the tier 1 employees. However, when they get high enough in seniority that they can acquire a core job, they move to the traditional wage... But I believe the pension book is closed to any new hires. They had to stop that since people are living so long... Like my grandfather... been retired from GM almost longer than he has worked there. Its been almost 30 years since he retired and hes in his 80s and still kicking collecting that money... And thats a small part of GM's problem... And I said small... The biggest part was ignoring the voice of the customer for so many years which they have just started begun listening to but it takes a while to win people back over... Hopefully that happens sooner than later for the millions of people who work at an automaker or a parts supplier whos job depends on the Big 3.

And I don't want to talk to much about that stuff since any other employee there could easily identify me with the information I gave about myself.

It's a decent living yes, but most people think we make 75 dollars an hour and do nothing but crossword puzzles and get drunk every day (guess we must have some sort of child labor that makes 3 dollars a day actually building the cars)... Boy are they wrong. Line moves at 80 cars per hour.

Try picking up and loading roughly 24,000 pounds of packages into the back of a tractor trailer in a four hour period.

Granted, I only work four hour days, but 6 thousand pounds and hour really wears you out.

Oh, I'm not complaining by any means... I know I got it good and better than most... In fact, like I said, I can't wait till they hire the new workers and add the third shift because I don't want all this mandatory overtime... I don't need the money that badly, its almost not even worth it. My employer takes good care of me and its a great job... I just hate when people grossly over-exagerrate our salaries by large amounts and at the same time grossly under-exaggerate the work we do. There is nobody in our plant- production, skilled trades, or management (that I know of) that makes "150,000" dollars a year to "sleep" all day. Thats the common attitude of the jealous folks. I never doubted that you work your ass off and get paid less than you deserve... I wouldn't wanna unload tractor trailers by hand.

people that say its all the greedy overpaid UAW workers faults that the Big 3 are in the shape they are in... And they often fail to mention that the workers in Honda's and Toyota's U.S. plants make 26 an hour...And thats so much less than 28 an hour. Auto manufacturing has traditionally always been a good paying job no matter what company you work for. Although thats changing sadly.

Punch the sunroof switch guy for me if he asks why tell him he knows what he did. If you know where the stock ECU tune developers are knee cap em for the rest of us with the 2.4. Give the heated leather seat guy a big hug from me.

Nice to see some companies still have morals and ethics towards controlled substances!

Also, do me a favor and torture the developers of the E16a until they release the source code to HPTuners
