Small electronics NEED HELP!!!

Hey Guys, Im working on wiring LED Im starting with my XBOX so all the holes have a green gow coming from them, but Im wirng the leds up first then hot glueing them into the case. For my "mock up" I got a cheap flourescent light from the store that un on 12 volt car adapter and cut the wire so I have 12volts (Using one of those adapters so I can plug a car thingy in the house outlet) The LED's are rated at 3.2V to 6.4V each so I divided 12 by 3 and figured they would hold 4 volts each. I wired 3 in SERIES and when I hooked it to my "Mock up" made with alagator clips I fried all my LEDs.........help, lol

Jay B

And an addition the wall thing puts out 12volts 8 watts, could the wattage have fried it, and have I misunder stood and I have to wire a resistor in EVEN is I wire it in SERIES

u run the LED's backwards?? they only go one way, they are diodes for a reason!!

I know how Diodes work, The Longer end of the LED is the Annode and its positive....., And I know the wearnt backwards but I may have fried it by them being wiring something backwards IDK....The were green for about 5 seconds then started blowing.

a backwards diode would prevent the equipment from receiving power... so basically it wouldnt light up....

it sounds like the current is too high....how many mA are they rated for?

on an LED it would also generate heat and melt them...buut since they flashed green this is not the case

if u put a low wattage bulb in a high wattage circuit you will fry it.

So I had them wired right, just not a good source of power....How could I wire them without too much current?

So should I wire them in parallel and a resistor for each?

These are the LEDs I am useing

i would do it in series with a resistor at the front of the chain....just have to do some math first

Thats how I just did it, Positive......Resistor to anode of LED1, Cathode of LED1 to Anode of the led2, then cathode of LED2 to ground.......Whats the effective way to wire 10 of them, then pull the 12volts from the power to one of the Fans on my XBOX?

ok...here is what you do...get a higher Ohm resistor....maybe even a higher wattage....and run the fan in parrallel before the chain of LED's
