Smoked tail light problems?

Has anyone ever had any problems with their tail lights being smoked? I wanted to smoke mine, not black but darker. more of like a maroon. I wanted to but then a few people were telling me about being rear-ended and me being responsible because the other driver "might not see", even though that is not the case, they could still use it as an excuse. Has anyone here had any problems with them, or have been in an accident because of them?

nah, mine are completly pich black in the day time, and you can still see brake lights through em unless the sun is beaming on them directly. I used nightshades.

Mine are completely black, and i haven't had a problem with being rear ended. Although i do favor it to be somewhat shaddy and cloudy outside when i drive Lol. but naw it's cool. you dont have to go dark, if you go with light coats , you should be fine. i usually tested out my lights after i VHT'd them.

I was simply stating that if you go dark it will be fine. going dark will still be visible and ten times better than going a "darker shade of red" to me it looks ugly but too each there own. i would wetsand them a few times, make sure you use clear coat.

yea i honestly dont like it real dark. i think like a darker more "euro" color would please me. its a hell of alot better than buying new lights. Im still gonna keep the reverse light stock/clear so it will be DOT approved.

Well... as far as rear ending issues, its rare. It is primarily the excuse the cops/dmv use to justify writing fix it tickets for having tinted tail lights although there are a good number of cars that have black tinted tail lights stock.

Yeah, alot of guys are wanting to do trades for lights due to either selling their cars or because they're sick of getting pulled over (Some areas are really bad about it).
