Smoking bans
Smoking bans
Well, Saturday is the first day of Colorado's statewide smoking ban.
Governor Bill Owens would prevent smoking in the vast majority of Colorado businesses, including all restaurants, bars and private clubs. The exemptions to the smoking ban are the Denver International Airport smoking lounge, tobacco shops, so-called cigar bars, businesses with fewer than three employees and all of the state's casinos, patios and courtyards, private homes and vehicles
whatcha do you guys think.. I think it sucks

Like I said in the other thread, the smoke-free bars/clubs that I've found and frequent do an AWESOME business. Most of them have to turn people away at the door because of fire laws on building capacity. It's really nice to be able to go out and have fun with your friends, not cough all night, not have stinging eyes, not smell like smoke for the rest of the night, not have a car that smells like smoke because you're saturated in it...etc.

up in canada in the toronto region (i refer to toronto as everyone knows about it), but pretty much all of ontario is catching on to it, it has been i think 2 years now like this......
1st it was no smoking in bars, resturants, coffe shops, any public place (unless they had their own ventilated smoking room)
2nd was everything above, but they got rid of the smoking room and you couldnt smoke in any bars, resturants, coffe shops (it was a take it outside policy)
3rd (and as of now), no smoking on bar patios, resturant patios, casinos, no smoking pretty much at any business where you share space with another person who may not smoke..
NOw as a non smoker i think this is awsome, i think smoking is fine (its your dam choice, and its your luncgs, and i gain cause you pay alot of taxes on it)
but i think the absolute most disgusting thing ever is to see someone eating out at a nice resturant and smoking while eating....
nice to be able to enjoy the patio during the summer and not sell smoke while im eating my $Steak dinner

Its been a couple years like that here in NY...it doesn't hurt business at all...smokers will still smoke, and they will still go to bars/clubs even if they have to go outside to smoke, where they belong.
I grew up with 2nd hand smoke and I hate every bit of it. I think it should be a nation-wide law.

Hooray for non-smokers! Boo for smokers! I personally think smokers and non-smokers both have rights. They have taken away a right (freedom) from smokers. Smokers should have the right to smoke where and when they want! If non-smokers don't like it.... to bad, so sad. The non smoker can choose to leave the area! A smoker does not have that choice, they can't smoke there! I don't have a problem at the work place, that should be an employers discresion. By-the-way I am a NON-SMOKER!
Even as a smoker (until I hit the 4 week quit mark still consider myself one) I've always agreed with the by-laws and now the new provincial laws put in place. I really never had a problem being forced to go outside to smoke and now with the restrictions on distance from entrances etc. it makes it that much easier for non-smokers to avoid the inevitable cloud that would be hanging around entrance ways.
