Most importantly, which Cobalt? 2.2, SS, or SS/SC?
How much snow?
What types of roads? Highway? City street? Country road? Mountains?

there's really 2 things that make a car good in the snow:

1) driver
2) tires

in that order. if there's snow and the roads are icy, and you drive like an *******, no car will be good in the snow. if you take it easy, and have good all season tires, then yes the car is good in the snow

mine did just fine in moderate snow over the winter. on stock tires so i guess it all depends how you drive in the snow

everytime it snows in South Dakota it gets so cold at night it all freezes...salt does no good in single digit numbers. With the SS/SC you have to be real real easy on the gas. The stock pirellis do good in less than an inch of snow...once there's more than that and it starts getting packed down on the road you're done. They don't have a lot of traction when you're breaking too.

I've had a few scary moments going downhill on base on an icy road that comes up to a 4 way stop....then going uphill after I make a right turn.....

Yeah. I put snow tires on mine. I live in Forest Hills....which it may surprise you to find out....is full of HILLS. I have yet to get stuck. Even when we had an ice storm on Valentine's Day and my sloped driveway was a sheet of ice, I had no problems what so ever.

If you say "Yeah, I live in Pittsburgh" it's safe to assume no matter the neighborhood, the house is on a hill.

I actually bought my car in the middle of a frickin Michigan winter. The car doesn't do horribly in snow on the stockers, but I would NOT recommend driving all winter on them. If you search there are plenty of stories about people going into ditches and what not due to the stock tires and a lack of driver mod.

THe standard Cobalts without big tires and wheels.....yes!

The SS/SC's Pirellis are pretty shitty in the snow, hence why I now have 225/40 Falken ZE-512s mud and snow rated Z rated tires, and they are quite good in the snow! I drove all last winter here in missouri with them, and it did good!

I live in Alaska. We have snow for like 8 months out of the year. As long as you're not dumb while driving and have winter tires then you're good to go. I did have a scary moment though racing some guy, we hit 90(well I did cuz he was behind me) and I was coming up on a van doing about 50. Ya hit the breaks and started sliding at this van at about 80mph. It was all good though, nothing happened, but that is a good example of what not to do with your car in the winter.

I made it through this past winter in my 2.4 on the stock pirellis. I'd rate it as below average of the 5 fwd cars I had before but I expected it to be worse than it was being they are pirellis after all. I just kept it slow in the granny lane and didn't have any problems. Just use common sense and smile at the suvs as they go by; wait till spring to leave them behind in the twisties.

With that said I'm getting cheapo rims and studded tires for this winter. Probably overkill but I've got a long ass commute.

And laugh at them as you pass them at the gas station.

The SNOW doesn't know what kind of car you have.
On the other hand, the SNOW knows the tires you have quite well.
