Exclamation Sold the wrong wheels!

my wife, god bless her heart, brought my LT for me. she stuck the window sticker in the glove box and i pulled it out today while i was cleaning. my first thought was to toss it but i started reading the options and realized that they sold her (me) 15" wheels and charged her (me) for the 16" that come with the Sport Package. I wanted to call up the dealership and blow a fuse but seeing as it is sunday i'll be steaming about this til tomorrow.

whats my best plan of attack in this situation? we paid the upcharge for the wheels and dont have them. i have had the car for a few months but should that really matter i should get what i paid for right?

I would talk to a manager of some sort, but good luck. Depending on how long you have had the car, they might give you a hard time about it. They might try and say you swapped wheels. Hopefully they are cool though and take your woed or can trace it back.

Swap out the 16" wheels for 15"?

You would have to be insane to do that.

I guess maybe they could say you switched them out in order to get another set of 16" wheels? but that's mroe far fetched than the dealer messing up.

re-read the thread dude. his wife left the dealer w/ the 15" wheels but they charged her for the 16" wheels that come in the sport package.

i hope you get your 16" wheels that you're supposed to get. what else is included in the sport package? are the wheels just the only thing you didn't have?

DUDE!!!

cobalt_supercharged: "They might try and say you swapped wheels."

I was saying that in terms of why would the dealer not believe him and say he swapped out factory 16's for 15's

I know how to read thank you.

what is the difference between the 15's and 16's?
Do they look completely different? Or are just bigger?

Go in and tell them. Someone probably did swap them on the lot. If they give you any crap call GM's 1-800 number. I thought you had to get the sport appearance package to get them.

This is as close a shot that I have of my rims...these are what the 16s look like. As well...seems for tires you either get the P6s or in my case the Michelin MXV4s:

Oh...and I would imagine if you go into the dealership and explain things there should be no problem. It's not your fault they sold you the wrong set...and if they give you a hard time go through GM customer service. They owe you those rims/tires.

Do you know what the top speed is, cause the Sport package has a top speed of 120 w/o it is only 105.

got down there today and the service manager goes on to explain that i do have the wrong wheels on the car. he also tells me there is no way the tires got swapped on the lot so now i have to wait a week for some other manager that is on vacation and he's the one that has to call corp and find out what happened. i dont care for all of this cause the guy said if he called today it would throw up red flags cause a car never leaves the factory with the wrong wheels. sound like bullshit to me, i think he's trying to put me off. who do i talk to now?

on a side note the sales staff and a couple of techs came out to give my ride the once over and i got nothing but love. they all loved the exterior mods and the fact that i went went the injen and corsa for more power over stock. made me proud to get good feedback from the guys i feared would be pissed i tweaked it a little.

i can run 125 give or take before the fuel shut-off kicks in.

If you're not happy with the answer call GM customer service and explain what you've found and see what can be done. Just don't sound overly pissed off or they'll get down your dealerships throat and they may not necessarily be giving you the run around. I find it hard to believe there is never a mistake on the assembly line...everyone makes mistakes.

i'm on the phone with them now. i am not pissed but overly upset at the fact that i spoke with a couple of different managers and didnt get a concrete answer or solution. let's see what they say. i told them as well that i was informed cars never leave the factory like mine supposedly did.

That's a bunch of crap. Did you talk to the guy that sold you the car? There's probably someone else above the service manager you can talk with. Don't let them blow you off.

When I bought my Cobalt last June, I had been forced to buy a car b/c the POC that I was driving broke a pushrod. I got mine through the GM Employee Discount For Everyone and I knew I was gonna get a Cobalt. I didn't have much time to find exactly what I wanted so I ended up getting an LS (not a base 2005; base was just a Cobalt). It was located at another dealership about 250 miles away. I had to get more than I had intended on getting but was stuck with the 15" aluminum wheels. I got everything except auto and 16's (no OnStar). I went back and forth with GM and my dealer explaining that the sport package was supposed to have 16's and they showed me the different package groups and apparently I have some sport package with 15's. I've been crazy about getting a set of the 16's ever since I got the car. Have to wait to find some in a junk yard I suppose; far too expensive to purchase new.

My car cuts off just past the 105 mark; indicating it is set for the 15's.
His car reaching 125 indicates that it was set for the 16's; so yes, it's quite obvious that his car was supposed to have them. It's on the sticker and it's programmed to allow the top speed for the sport package with the 16's.

I'll keep reading to see how this turns out. Anyone near me wanting to get rid of factory 16's shold PM me.

Scott

closed the book

talked to Richard @ the GM service line. I plugged the mans name cause his customer service skills go way beyond that of average. if this is in any way against forum rules please remove his name. if you have problems please contact him, he is the best.

yesterday the Rich called my dealer and left a message for the service dept. manager. i was told he'd call me back but i never got a call. so i what til 1pm today to call back. Rich didnt answer his line but i spoke with another tech and found out my service tech made 2 calls to my dealer this morning. i am told he will call me back asap.

my dealer calls me a few minutes ago and tells me Ricahrd tracked down my wheels. turns out my car was in a dealer swap and the dealer it came from swapped the wheels out before the car shipped. they have the wheels in decatur, il and are getting them shipped to my dealer to be installed on my car. the dealer said Richards service technique was beyond reproach.

yeah i got done right this time arround.

I was going to say that the tires were probably swapped somewhere at the dealer. You should've looked around the lot to see if anyone had a set of 16" on a cobalt parked in employee parking. I went to a Saturn lot and saw a set of Red Line chrome wheels on an older model LS1. I wouldn't put anything past any dealer, and this is while having some real good friends who are new car salesmen.
