SS/SC getting attention lately!
We'll, I've had my car for several months now and have generally been oblivious. Lately though, everyone seems to be interested in my car! Maybe people are finally starting to hear good things about them.
A few months ago I was leaving my garage and I had a few teenage girls walking past taking some pictures from across the street (of the car, not me...I hope). Besides that incident, I was generally not seen except for the occasional glance.
In the last week, I have had three incidents where the car garnered attention. I spent twenty minutes showing the car to a mailman who had come over and asked me about the car when I parked it. He said he was thinking about buying one or the Civic Si. Like me he thought the Civic pricing in Canada was a joke, and liked the power and upgradability (staged kits) that the Chevy offered. So I let him have a look and poped the hood. We chatted for a bit, then went on our way.
The other night, I was out washing it and had some teenage girls ride past me and whistled at me. (And of course the first time in my life I get whistled at, the girls are like 8 years too young for me!)
Now tonight, on my way home, I was pulling away from a light going onto a freeway onramp, and from the car next to me I hear "Hey... How do you like the car?". I turn and look and a guy in his 40's is in his 90s Buick with his wife rolling down his window to ask me about my car. "My wife wants me to buy her one", the gentelman says! I told him it is a great car and that I have really enjoyed it. Gave him a thumbs up and continued on my way.
Just thought that it was nice to see people interested in the car. I am sure these are common in the US, but in Canada (or at least Edmonton) I rarely see these cars around. I have had maybe 4-5 sightings in the last 5 months of an SS/SC. I like the fact that there are few of these, but it would be nice to see some more on the road as there are hardly any.
Anyone else experiencing the same interest in the car?

Yeah I've noticed the same thing there is hardly any around here either I know of 2 in saskatoon. I get alot of people pulling up beside me at lights and asking about it. Alot of people don't know what it is which is why I bought it because it is different and you dont see them everywhere.
Some really old man at the gas station was like, is that a cobalt?
I was like yeup.
Then he said how fast have you gotten it up to?
I was like uh, its not how fast it can go, but how quickly it can get there.
Then I said it was quick and he smiled... creeped me out.

ive only seen one other on the road and ive had mine for about...i dont know, a month and a half? i get stupid amounts of attention too, its great. it's weird, anyone i just meet is like 'is that your car man?' 'its so sick'. not to mention when i pull up to anywhere with people around, every girl is staring. at me though, not the car
edit: oh, and ive had the water guy come up and talk to me about cars...but that was about the 69 camaro haha, the cobalt is nothing next to that. oh, and there is a c6 corvette next to the camaro...and a mustang GT. im the only 4-banger

Oh yeah, not only do people come over when they see me, the sound system is so loud, driving down the street people turn around to see whats making all the noise
Even car alarms seem to notice when I'm around
You should see the people crowd when i open my trunk, I did today at a car show, and imeadiately like 15 people walked over and just stared at it, it was pretty funny

yeah I know what you mean about people saying stuff about our cars...I have been told many times that my car was nice...especially from older individuals...I mean people that could be my parents...I had one lady tell me that it would make a good anniversaire gift haha...I guess there is just a certain catch to our cars...more than once people have asked me..."did the seats come stock like that...did you have to add the color to the doors???"...when I tell people its all stock they kinda just look at me like I am not telling them the truth....it might not be as fast as a wrx...or a srt...but it has an extremely good balance between looks and speed. I mean...I know this is going to make a lot of people mad...but srts are just not all that cool looking...the inside is just dull...if I want to race all the time...yeah i would go for a an srt...crap if I had the money I would get a wrx sti...but...seriously...when you think about it...you are just paying for speed when it comes to stis and neons...its like they totally looked past the whole visual appeal...and went for speed.....I just like the cobalt ss/sc because its a combination of everything in one.
i used to get weird looks when i would roll through the local car hangout spot but for the past few weeks everytime i go i get a lot of attention... in a good way. people come over and ask me about it and say they like it etc. and people i don't even know ask me for rides. i'm gonna start charging, lol. the blower whine gets em every time though

couldnt help myself.
I've had a lot of looks and complements at the gas station and at the store. I had the UPS man checking it out when I was washing it (he was delivering my ETD). He had a few different SHO's. He liked the style and was suprised it came with Recaros. I was also pulled over for no front plate and the cop said "I thought you were speeding until I looked at my laser gun". I ended up popping the hood in the parking lot I pulled over in so he could have a looksie. Ended up letting me go with a warning.
I like taking off very silently.. just sitting in traffic and people are minding there p's and q's not even thinking twice about my car, sure you get a stare but nothing beats starting slow and then ripping it up after the people already pass you with there windows down and the supercharger spools and makes the beautiful whine noise
k
One day I did that the guy in a chevy silverado rolled up next to me and goes "what the **** is that whining noise coming from under your hood?" I tell him it's my supercharger he goes "damn that **** is loud! what the hell is a supercharger?" I explain he goes wow. That's crazy!

If there's one thing I'm going to miss when I come back to the states it's the attention I garner when driving my SS/SC.
I currently reside in Lakenheath/Mildenhall area UK - I've lived here for about 4 years now doing military work (if that means anything to you who aren't military) and stationed here (For those of you who are). Since I've been here, there are only 2 (that's right.. 2) Cobalt SS/SC's imported into the UK that are on record. Mine, and TXLonghorn1's. EVERYWHERE WE GO - we get attention. My car garners more attention, however, because of the Sunburst Orange color. Every time we go to a city outside of ours here in England, 95% of the population STOP.
And Stare.
There are several reasons for this - as every single week I'm explaining at least 2 or 3 more times what my car is, how fast it is, why it's left hand drive, and how I got it into the country. Anyone wanting to be an attention ***** - you better believe that this car will get that for you in the UK. The last event I went to was about a week ago where all the Peugots and Astra's, and Fiats gather.. First rolls up my boy's SRT-4 and TXLonghorn's SS/SC - and they call me up, still waiting for me to get there. I finally show up, and out of 30-35 people there; I could only count about 5 people who seemingly ignored all the attention that my car received.
Unfortunately when I come back to the states, I won't be a rarity anymore!

I get positive comments all the time. Too many since I've had the car and I've lost count.
Basically anytime I go through a drive-through restaurant I get someone saying "man that car is awesome" or "those are sweet".

I have the only ss/sc here, there is 1 coupe, several sedans. I get asked what type of car is that occassionally. Only gotten a little attention out of it though. Once I tell people what it is they are they usually walk off. It got the attention of 2 Moter bike cops this week. I work next door to an enterprise rent a car, so my car is parked among other cobalts. People have tried to rent it lol. Only person that has really questioned me alot about the car was an asian guy in a civic hatchback. He knew what the car was, wanted to run me in it, wanted to see every aspect of the car. He was cool though, nice, and a pleasure to talk too.
When I got to the gym I had a cop stare at me for like 10 minutes straight, and I couldnt figure out what I had done wrong he kept driving by me at like 5mph. Finaly he asked how I liked my car and how FAST it was! I was like, yeah office, " its fun to drive" lol.
Actually, i've noticed alot more attention as well. Just yesterday i was in traffic and this guy in his 40's or 50's was sitting next to me in a lifted 2003+ Dodge Ram with exhaust. He rolled down his window and asked "So, is that the SS?" And i told him "Yea, it's an '05 Supercharged Cobalt" He said "Supercharged? So you supercharged it?" "No, it came from the factory supercharged" He looked stunned and goes "Well, it look nice, but be careful with it." I said "Nice truck BTW, and i'll be sure to take it easy." Then as i went to play hockey yesterday, i stopped at the gas station And the cleck who was 20-25 asked "Sow are those Cobalt SS's as nice as they say they are?" i said "yea, it's nice. And pretty quick." "Do those come in auto?"he asked "No, Supercharged onlycomes in 5spd" i said. "My girlfriend was looking at a fo SS with an auto." "Well, the 2.4 SS comes in an automatic." He looked confussed and asked "What's that got? a 2.5" Nope, a 2.0 SC" Oh" Then i said i gotta go and went on my way.
