The summer tires on the SS S/C....should NOT be used in winter. Once you get below 0C or 32F, the tires become rock hard and the grooves will fill with snow almost instantly making them slicks. No traction at all. As has been said many times, get steelies with winter tires and you will have very little trouble at all.

but the scary thing is...there are a few floating around on this site that do say things
just like what you said. its frightening to think what we have to share the roads with at times.

Thats's exactly what happened to me this past winter after the first snowfall. Going to work at 530am and started applying the brakes way way before the intersection. Tires locked up right away going downhill towards a stop sign I had to turn right at. Blew the stop sign whipped the wheel to the right made the turn and then had to about floor it to get momentum to get up the hill that goes by the Bomb wing HQ building. I was going about 15 at the top of the hill when I hit the brakes. Speed limit on that road is 35. And this was with just a couple inches of slush/snow/ice on the road.

i highly doubt i'll have myself a set of snow tires by snowfall and it sucks! i'm really not too concerned though. my stock continentals are in a hell of a lot better shape than the tires i drove with on my old car last year. those were in pretty bad shape, wasn't much tread on 'em at all but i only ditched it once and that was all because some ***** didn't want to share the road. back roads in the country suck in winter

I just went with Perilli Pzero Nero M+S All seaons and they handled like a champ in 3+ inches of snow... HOWEVER, once they had about 15k miles they started to suck, and the tires wore out at around 30,000 miles.

I just switched to Bridgestone Protenza 960AS (All season M+S) 225/45/18 and am LOVING them... I cannot wait to take them in some snow...

But they handle better then both the stock and a/s perillis!

I was going to buy some snow tires and stuff for the ss but I figure I'd invest a little more money and get a truck instead...just bought a 92 4runner!! Now the ss can sit in the garage safe from all the crazy drivers who dont know how to drive in the snow!!

They're still not the same model, though. The P6 is a separate line from the PZero family, different tread (if you look across all the PZeros they all have the same tread pattern, but different compounds).

And it's a performance car. Not putting high performance summer tires on it would be like building one of those fighting robots and forgetting to give it some way to move around - great potential, but reality falls far short of intention.

I <3 my Dunlop WinterSport M3 (I think they're now called the 3D or something). Turned the SS into a tank. I could get through snow/ice that 4wd vehicles couldn't and the grip saved me a few times when the car coulda (and probably shoulda) wiped out.

I went for a middle of the road very well priced goodyear nordic ($94 canadian per) and they shock me during winter.
truely worth every penny when your cruising around a corner and figure you SHOULD feel the tail slide out....but it takes the corner like its on rails.

please please guys. dont try and convince yourself that you can do it because "your a good driver"

that has nothing to do with it. the tires are a life threatening hazard in the snow. please dont put your fellow drivers at risk.
