SS/SC winter driving
The summer tires on the SS S/C....should NOT be used in winter. Once you get below 0C or 32F, the tires become rock hard and the grooves will fill with snow almost instantly making them slicks. No traction at all. As has been said many times, get steelies with winter tires and you will have very little trouble at all.

They suck.. and would not recommend driving in them.. i slid right through an intersection, doing 50kmph.... and i gave my self PLENTY and I mean PLENTY of time to stop and still went through.. if ur looking for a death wish.. lol i would not drive with them.. get steelies and winter tires.
i highly doubt i'll have myself a set of snow tires by snowfall and it sucks! i'm really not too concerned though. my stock continentals are in a hell of a lot better shape than the tires i drove with on my old car last year. those were in pretty bad shape, wasn't much tread on 'em at all but i only ditched it once and that was all because some ***** didn't want to share the road. back roads in the country suck in winter
I just went with Perilli Pzero Nero M+S All seaons and they handled like a champ in 3+ inches of snow... HOWEVER, once they had about 15k miles they started to suck, and the tires wore out at around 30,000 miles.
I just switched to Bridgestone Protenza 960AS (All season M+S) 225/45/18 and am LOVING them... I cannot wait to take them in some snow...
But they handle better then both the stock and a/s perillis!

and i'd like to say that i was only 50% wrong lol thanks for the correction though + rep
i have an 07 balt ss/sc with the stock Pirelli PZero Rosso 215 45 r18 tires and i will sometimes barley be able to move in a flat parking lot in snow or ice but it will just crawl up the biggest hills in the same weather its sorta weird there not to bad if ur driving for the conditions or just normal i also have the limited slip transmission in my car this may help i kno when i test drove one with out it in the summer it was rather hiddious when i got on it heavy it just did nice one wheel peel on to the hwy!
I was going to buy some snow tires and stuff for the ss but I figure I'd invest a little more money and get a truck instead...just bought a 92 4runner!! Now the ss can sit in the garage safe from all the crazy drivers who dont know how to drive in the snow!!
"Like all summer tires, PZero Rosso tires are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice" http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....el=PZero+Rosso

And it's a performance car. Not putting high performance summer tires on it would be like building one of those fighting robots and forgetting to give it some way to move around - great potential, but reality falls far short of intention.
I <3 my Dunlop WinterSport M3 (I think they're now called the 3D or something). Turned the SS into a tank. I could get through snow/ice that 4wd vehicles couldn't and the grip saved me a few times when the car coulda (and probably shoulda) wiped out.

I went for a middle of the road very well priced goodyear nordic ($94 canadian per) and they shock me during winter.
truely worth every penny when your cruising around a corner and figure you SHOULD feel the tail slide out....but it takes the corner like its on rails.
please please guys. dont try and convince yourself that you can do it because "your a good driver"
that has nothing to do with it. the tires are a life threatening hazard in the snow. please dont put your fellow drivers at risk.
