I'd like to throw a new contender into the mix for best sounding 4 banger.

But I still give the award to the SRT-4 for best sounding exhaust. Its Evil. Its Mean. It is the Destroyer of Worlds.

No. You lose.

Second place belongs to Evo's and DSM's, imo.

Third place goes to the WRX/STI.

Its all opinion anyway. Everyone likes stuff a different way.

That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it.

At the end of the day though, there are still hundreds of SRT-4 that are not only faster... but have better sounding exhausts... compared to the FASTEST Cobalt SS. Take ZZP's car(s) out of the equation... and its not even a fkn contest.

remember tho SRT-4's have a 1/2 liter bigger engine than us. Of course there gonna make more power. I got a bunch of friends who drive em. they are fun cars but the whole 4door bit doesn't appeal to me.

They also make WAY to much torque. They are good for only 3 and 4 gear pulls on the highway. Try to get one to dig and they make a comment like "i don't get traction, wait till i get my 2step" it's like w.e

I know they hate on all the slowbalts but ALOT of srt-4 boys underestimate the LNF motor w/mods

.4 has little to do with it, point could be made the SS can rev out higher. 3 and 4th gear pulls? They are no diff than than any other car. Though N2mb makes a electronic boost controller that has boost by gear/rpm.

you will spend a lot of money lol

my best setup back in the day was a 2.5" offset/center magnaflow muffler with a fat and long ass magnaflow resonator.

i had 2.8 pulley
aem cai
3" dp high flow cat
2.5" catback
hp tunes
heat exchanger

this is the best i could get mine..... mind you this is behind a building so there is some echo but it had no rasp and ppl liked it and most importantly so did i

This threads gay. I like my Cobalt better than the SRT4 but I never argue which is better. My buddy has one was 3071r now back to stage 3. His car is sweet I think my car is sweet the end lol.

Probably the most well rounded post I read so far...

IMHO the SRT4 (moreso the C-SRT4) gets really ragged on here,
they're great cars, very capable, and don't seem to suffer from the same rapid depreciation as these Cobalts...

I used to hate the C-SRT4, but I really warmed up to them some time ago...
For all out performance, the N-SRT4 is the one, for a more practical spin on the concept, the C-SRT4 wins...
I'm pretty sure there are on average, faster SRT4's than CSS's (meaning x number in the 10's, x number in the 11's ect)...

You will never see me knocking SRT4's... well except for Dodge requiring them to all have two too many doors

I dunno about that...

Have you seen how (relatively) few were built?

Have you seen how many (just on this site) that have already been written off??

The attrition rate of SS/TC's is completely astonishing to me.

... in the end, let your buddy run his mouth, enjoy your "to be purchased" Cobalt, and be the bigger man.

I wanted an SRT4 until I saw one hit another car in an intersection. Maybe a combined speed of 30-35mph. The guy in the passenger seat had his legs on the dash. I don't know if the seatbelts failed or what, but both his hips got dislocated, broke his nose and bit his tongue bad. Was also knocked out cold.

I've had a bad head-on because a drunk swerved. 80ish mph combined with a Dodge 1500. I'll not take my chances with an unsafe car.
