Stumped - SS T/C or G35

Let me just get it out of the way and say that I own a 2008 Çobalt LT, love cobalts and by no way to I mean to bash them or chevy. Also, I love working on and modifying cars, that's why I am feeling so torn. Stock, I would take the SS all day but with a few grand worth of build up I feel the fwd would start to lack.

Okay, so. I am currently in the market to purchase my first "nice" car. The first car I ever owned and still drive is a 08 lt and that's what made me initially fall in love with the turbo balts and I have always been certain I would buy a turbo cobalt. However, I recently started looking at G35s. A turbo balt and a used g35 are around the same price point with the G35 being a N/A 3.5L V6 RWD. But, its about 500 pounds heavier and naturally aspirated *shutttter* I would be putting a Greddy twin turbo kit and some other mods on that should bring it up in the 500hp region. If I got the balt I would do s256et, 5th injector and all that good stuff. But with the factors of front wheel drive vs rear wheel, econo styling vs luxuryish, 6 cyl vs 4 and 3500lbs vs 2975lbs I am so torn.

Thanks for taking time to read my novel and share your opinions. And remember, I'm not hating on balts in the slightest. Cheers everyone.

That's a tough one because I wouldn't mind a g35 they are nice cars. Only thing I can say is the g35 would be more expensive to fix and mod. I like the fact it's luxury, quick and looks great.

Very tough call. I've driven a couple of G35s and (obviously) I own an SS/TC. If they weren't out of my price range at the time I likely would have ended up in a G35. I'd have to say it depends on your purpose for the car. If your plan is to daily drive the car and or just do light mods to it (bolt ons etc), go SS/TC. But if you are planning on making it a garage queen and or doing big mods to it- go G35. To me, the G35 feels more like a sports car than the SS/TC does, even though the SS/TC will probably outperform the G35 in stock form/lightly modified form. If the weight is an issue, you could look at 350Zs since underneath, the G35 and the 350Z share the same motor (and maybe some suspension?) as well as other components I'm sure. I don't think the 350Z is quite as light as the SS/TC still but definitely lighter than the G35.

I have an 06 ss/sc stage 2 and if i were to buy again, id probably go for the g35. I cant count how many times ive wanted rwd. Also the interior and overall build quality is much nicer on the g35. Were talking about a what? $40,000 car(new) vs $25,000 car? Not to mention that glorious exhaust note on the g35. Also no one makes fun of you for having a g35. My buddies always bash my 'balt for being a... Well.. a Cobalt.. If you truly love the ss/tc though, you should get it. The definitely allot more unique and rare compared to a g35. Also its always fun seeing some hot shot in a mustangs face when you own him in a race. Probably keep its value better in the future too, might even be a collectors item one day.

For my next car, my top choices are:
G37
335i
240sx
B6 S4

Just my $0.02

It really depends on what you want out of the car. The g35 will be a hell lot more comfortable than the cobalt.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that the G35 stock engine can handle about 400 horsepower reliably so if you're going for 500 that might be something to look into. But personally I'd go SS/TC

A g35 turbo kit is like 5-8k and 400's i think is the usual for a twin kit. If your going for a crazy fast car g35 cuz of rwd. If u want 400-500 hp get a TC and save a lot of money

SS/TC Initial price is cheaper, cheaper to get to 400HP, and cheaper to repair.

So it's really up to your pocketbook.

There's more to it than just cost. What about USEABLE power? At 315whp I spin all the way through second gear. At 400whp you'll spin the tires even in third gear in a TC. A G35 with it's RWD will be able to put the power down much better, not to mention able to fit much wider tires on the drive wheels. You are right though, turbocharging a G35 probably won't be cheap. Also, turbocharging a naturally aspirated motor definitely leads to questionable reliability and shortening of the engine's life span.

they are both great cars one thing with the g35 over the cobalt though if your into it is scene points, cobalts def dont get as much scene points as say a g35 or g37 they look good and are reasonably priced but expensive to fix. youll have a great power to weight ratio with the cobalt and say you have 500whp in the cobalt run some toyo proxy R888 tires they hook great and youll win a lot of races with that set up man. but whatever you choose to go with good luck man

If you want nobody to like you or take your at serious, yet you will walk 90% of cars on the road... SS/TC

If you want something comfortable, RWD and despite the similar buying prices will be a lot more expensive...G35

I've pooped on a g35 pretty badly from an 80 roll, assuming it was stock other than the exhaust that was on it. (Hoping that's all that was done)

Definitely nice looking cars though!

Drive both and see which you like better.

The TC will perform better in every way up until a certain point, then the G35 will have more ultimate capability. But at that point you're talking lots of track time to get the last little bit of capability out of the car.

The VQ35 engines don't get much out of bolt ons, so I'm not that surprised. They would really need forced induction to stand a chance.

This. The TC is great to a certain point, then the laws of physics; front wheel drive will really limit how much usable power you have.

Also, despite how many people said they are 'comfy,' they actually ride pretty rough, even in stock form. I'd say a stock TC is comfier than a stock G35s.

Co-worker of mine has a G35 sedan, its butt ugly, that HIDEOUS gold color, black plastic skirts and hazed headlights.. ugh terrible.. oh and my TC walked it last time we had some fun.

I was looking into a G35 coupe a while back but decided not to as the G forums were telling me how ridiculous maint/mod costs were.

I love my T/C
