stupid check engine light came on

Well this is the 3rd time this thing has come on. I'm noticing the only time it comes on is when its gets cold.. A scan tool won't even power up to tell me what code it is. Can someone help me??

thats wierd that your scan tool won't power up, are you the scanner is not screwed up...

The light is off
I got gas this afternoon and the light was on. After it was done pumping it went off... I'm thinking it might be a problem with my gas cap..
