Thumbs up Sunroof Glass Fix from GM! (UPDATE)

Well, GM Engineers called my dealer back. They have to drop my liner and resync the motor mechanism to allow it to go all the way back. My glass is 3-4" too short of retracting all the way. That's the fix from General Motors. Just found out. AND ITS NOT AN ENGINEERING ERROR! IT JUST WASN'T ADJUSTED RIGHT FROM THE FACTORY! Just in case anyone misunderstands.

Update from GM

After my service department did the motor resync (per GM's instructions) and my sunroof didn't retract any further than originally installed. Okay so the REAL story is: there are 2 versions of the sunroof. 1 without XM and 1 with XM. The ones WITH XM only retract 50%. The ones WITHOUT XM retract about 80%. Being that GM has engineers (sorry, nothing personal to those of you out there that are engineers) think that the "glass" will block the XM signal. Guess they don't know much about XM. Thank goodness THEY didn't develop the XM system. This info comes directly from GM. So, we just live with it. But, don't you think that GM would have asked my service dept "Does the car have XM installed or not?" Not until after my service tech took apart the liner and resynced the motor.

I have XM on my LS and the sunroof goes all the way back without interfering with the signal.

So, you are saying if you are "inside" your vehicle, your "glass" retracts more than 50% when viewing the opening from "inside" the car. Mine almost touches my XM antenna. Sure, mine looks like it retracts all the way on the outside, but in reality it doesn not. Do you get wind that blows down inside the car with it open? p.s. also, I remember the Skiboarder311's XM antenna was installed on front of his car. He was the first one to get the SS/SC. Wonder if anyone else had theirs installed in front. My '04 Cavy had it installed in front. My sunroof on it retracted further than my SS/SC.

Fully open, wind through the opening, XM antenna in the rear. I'll post pics this afternoon.

So how far does it open now? In reference to the shade.

Shade Ref

My shade opens further than the glass. About 3-4". My whole issue is with the glass. I will try to take pics over the weekend. I still have a hard time posting pics inside of my thread.

I think your "fully open" is just a figure of speech. It surely isn't fully open. I'm anxiously waiting the pics. I just looked at your pics. Your glass seems to open the same amount as mine.

upon further inspection you maybe right. It does open as far as the shade. It's raining now, try to take a pic in a little while.

Of course it doesn't affect the signal, GM doesn't know any better. Oh well. Its just something I have to live with. I've had XM since it first came out. Nothing better than it!

Thanks for pics. I can see the red line goes further back than my glass does. Mine is at the mid point. Thanks for the pics.

Ljavy17

So, I see Ljavy17's posts of his black SS. They mounted the XM antenna towards the rear. So, I'm wondering how far the sunroof opens. What a huge mess! I'm still fuming over it. Just sucks.

Antenna on the front is Onstar - this has been covered ad nauseum on the site.

My SS/SC's sunroof opens 80% of the way to fully open, just short of covering the XM antenna. If yours only opens 50%, you have a problem.

Cool

I know the Onstar Antenna is on front, if you view SkiBoarder311's car, it SURELY looks EXACTLY like an XM Antenna, NOT the sharkfin looking OnStar. Thanks for your input. My sunroof stops short of my XM antenna also, but from the outside the glass looks like its 80%, but on the inside of the opening of the car, its only 50%! I guess I can talk this subject til I'm blue in the face.
