Most all superchargers whine a little... there are peices truning at very high rpm's in there... are you familiar enough with superchargers to know if its just typical whine or does it sound more like a grinding?

Well..... The dealer says it a normal sound. Although if it gets loud enough to the point where somebody asks if your car is diesel(like me) then it is possible it isn't normal.

hey, i had a knocking noise about 3 weeks after i picked mine up, it was loud as hell, ended up being a problem with the timming chain tensioner...... get it checked, asap! if it sounds like that, its not like a banging sound, but it sounded like metal hitting against metal.... its all warrenty work, well mine was, so it didnt cost anything

Its normal.
Remember there are two metal spiral gear-like shafts in there rotating on one another.

he originally said it sounded like metal gently rubbing against each other. nothing pinging of clicking, that would be what most of us hear as well. mine doesn't sound like that all the time... it's sporadic

Although there are in fact two helix shaped shafts rotating in unison, they never actually touch each other. The tolerance between them is so close that it couldn't be distinguished by the naked eye, so close that air can't even fit through under pressure.

If the 2 shafts are in fact touching each other then you have major problems. The Supercharger would be pretty much ruined, considering there would be excessive wear on the impellers and metal shaving entering the engine

If your car sounds like a diesel, you probably have a bad timing chain or something serious. If you hear a light "tumbling marble" sound from under the hood, chances are it's your blower, and that's normal..But diesel sound..ouch!!
