Thinking about a SS/SC, have ?'s

This weekend I'm going to try and trade my 1998 Eclipse GS-T in for a Cobalt SS/SC. Hopefully I will get around $4,000 or $5,000 for it, that would be sweet. I've been checking out this forum for alittle while now, and I've been reading what kind of problems that they have and whatnot, but nothing really scares me after what I went through with my DSM.

I paid $8,000 for the GST a while back. I started doing some mods to it little by little, which turned into alot. Evo3 16G turbo, intake, exhaust, greddy bov, act2100 clutch, fidanza flywheel, aem uego wideband, apex'i s-afc2, and fuel pump. After all of that, the car was pretty quick, but stuff always was going wrong with it. One day I stopped at the local GM dealer and after one test drive in the cobalt, I decided to stop modding/fixing my eclipse and start saving for a ss/sc.

So I have a few questions. I need to find a Black or Silver 2006 with the g85 and recaro seats. Would a 2006 ss/sc have rebates by now?
Or would a 2006 be too hard to find and should I just go for a 2007?
How much are your payments a month, just to give me an idea?
Do you regret buying your ss/sc? wish you got something else? or still love it?

Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

a new 06 is gonna be next to impossible to find.

with $0 down, a decent payment would be like $320 USD, but it really all depends on your credit situation

i regret buying the car. I put nothing down and carried 5k over from a trade in and got a 6.x interest rate. payemnt is going to depend on your down payment and credit. First gear sucks, wheel hop is a bitch. cruise control has broken 4 times, my car is mysteriously eating coolant(started at 11k and now I ahve 18k and the dealership can't figure it out). I should have saved for a month or so and gotten a evo for sti. if you still plan on getting one, wait till une or july when they start to try and move the 07s. the longer you wait, the better. check chevy.com for the rebates in your area.

It really depends on the term of the loan. Is it 36 months? 60? 72? That is why these "payments" threads are meaningless.

60 months. thats what I'm paying with 0% intrest (and got the car below invoice)...

it's roughly 1/2 paid off, and I've only had it for 14months.. 0% is awesome. Take that over any B.S. rebate.

Although, you gotta take into consideration that I was a GM employee at the time... so they gave me 0%, or the employee discount... I chose GMAC 0%.. saved me way more money in the long run.

I was in the same boat you were in. I sold my 98 GST for the SS/SC and I like it more. I was having all sorts of problem with my Eclipse. Haven't had any with my ss/sc. I'm happy i made the switch. The only thing I miss about the gst is the turbo sound. But i got used to the wine of the supercharger. You should probably get the 07. There should be some rebates for the new ones. Just check with the dealership. I pay $350 a month for mine. But I did the smart buy. Payments would be about $425 if I didn't. I couldn't really afford that.

I have had my problems with the car...but i have an 2005...depending what you plan on doing to it will depend on the types of problem you are going to have to look for...most of the car's problem are minor if you dont plan on doing much to it...after modding however...then **** starts to break...i have a bone stock car and have had my head replaced due to warping...that is one of the reasons it is still stock...i love the car and would def. suggest getting one...even after the problems...the only catch is that when i feel like i am making enough to go get an EVO i think i am going to do that...just cant afford it right now...so take that for what it is worth...probably not much...but the decision is yours

I haven't had any problems with my 07 SS/SC.

Go for the 07, but make sure you get the LSD.

You are no longer able to get the Recaros, though.

Yeah, I'm bummed about the Recaro's not being in the 07's. Thats lame, but I will def get the g85 package, and a 60 month loan.

I'm gonna miss the turbo sound too, but that whine I hear in videos of ss's is infectious. I love forced induction.

Yeah, get an intake and you'll quickly forget about the hiss of the turbo and embrace the whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.

I'm glad I got the Recaros - one of the few hundred made in August 06 that had them. Anyway, the regular seats are decent too.

IMO I like 2006 modles best. Just a little differant options and stuff. 07 is nice too with the 6 disc cd changer. Anyways, if you do get one you will regret not getting the G85 package. Get the LSD for sure. I pay about 300 a month for 6 year loan. The neat thing is I got 0%. Sometimes they run really good deals like that. Not sure if they will do it again. Good luck, I have no regrets with my Cobalt SS/SC. I have a 2006 Cobalt SS/SC rally yellow with the G85 package. Good luck.

I have had no problems with my 07 ss/sc. I wouldn't trade it for any other car in the same price range. My car is lightly modded and its plenty fast and lots of fun. The only cars that are better are way out of this car's price range.

Just out of curiosity, why did they take the recaro's out?

Are there any differences between the 06 and 07, besides the cd changer and the seats?

How do the ladies like the car? lol I'm used to getting alot of attention in my hick town, with tractors and farm trucks that make my car look like a Gallardo. Only if they knew what a peice of s**t my car is...I can't wait till its gone!

The Cobalt I test drove was a red 2006 ss/sc w/ g85, and they had a decent rebate on it too, but they only wanted to give me $3000 on my eclipse, which sounded blasphemous at the time since I had just bought it for $8000 the year earlier, and put $3000 in modifications and $3000 in maintainence.

Hopefully and I can land a sweet deal with the dealership, they are offering 118% trade in value on my Eclipse, but I guess they could screw me somewhere else. I've never bought a car except from private seller's, so I'm not really used to being worked over. Is there any tips for dealing with a car salesman and to protect myself from getting raped?

I had an 06 SSSC, it was totalled. I bought an 07 SSSC with the same equipment (G85 with Recaros, sunroof and polished wheels. I like the 07 better. It gets better gas mileage, the radio sounds better and it seems tighter. I would go for an 07, you might find one with the recaros.
