Tint Laws
Tint Laws
I've done some inconclusive googling and I'd like a little confirmation on this. My state's tint law is 35%, my neighboring states are 50% and 70%. If I get 35% tint, can I get a ticket if I'm driving in the other states? And am I likely to get pulled over for 35% anyway?
You can get a ticket in other states but most officers will not give you one. Lawfully though, you have to conform to the laws of the jurisdiction in which you are driving. If any of that is spelled wrong I appologize...drunk posting FTL...info is still correct lol
Depends entirely on where you live. Where I used to live in Marion, IA...yes. Where I live now in SJ, CA...never in a million years.
Ask in the regional forums if ppl have trouble around your area.

I live in FL where the law is 25% I have what I was told was 20% and have never had a problem. I did however, take a one day trip (total of about 8 hours) to GA where appharently their laws are 32%. I got pulled over for tint only, I was not speeding. The cop bitched at me for not being able to see in, and wandered back to his car. Longish story short, he put his gadget on my window and it clocked out at 18%, I tried the "I live in FL" defense, but he wasn't having it, I ended up with a $200 ticket
I just got screwed here in the Iowa with a $127 dollar ticket and that was with twenty percent. My buddy has thirty five percent and has been pulled over four or five times for it.
I don't understand how they can do that.
I mean, some states don't have a state inspection, like Florida... So if someone is driving thier florida car on vacation into NH for example, they can't get pulled over in NH for "uninspected vehicle".... so what makes the tint situation any different?

i live in NY and i guess now ANY tint on your front windows is illegal, back windows dont matter.
ive been driving around for 5 months now with 20 percent on my windows and have only been pulled over once and the cop let me go.

ive been a professional tinter for 7 years legally they cannot enforce the state law on a vehicle registered in another state. how ever if your state requires 35% and you place 35% film on your car it will be illegal. all cars come with factory tint in the glass. you would have to place 50% film to be legal... anymore questions feel free to pm me...

You live in Flordia, where your allowed to have 25%, you have 20%
You go to Georgia, where they allow MORE tint, 32%, you stil have your 20%
20 < 32
So why did you get a ticket?
Even if you had the legal max allowed in Flordia, you would still be
under the law in Georgia.
I think I'm missing something,
Lets see if I get this correct:

The percentage refers to how much light is let through the tint, so 20% is darker than 32% which is why he got hassled.
